One of this season’s key hair trends is fringes – we’re not sure if everyone has suddenly decided to hate their own forehead, but everyone seems to be opting for some sort of fringe instead of showing it off! Fringes can be worn in a number of ways and we thought we’d take a look at some inspirational styles in case you decide to go for the chop:
Full fringes tend to be thick and cover the full width of the forehead. They suit almost any face shape but need to be kept styled in order to look perfect. Zooey Deschanel is a great example of a full fringe and wears hers with feminine waves around the face to soften the overall effect.
Kate Middleton probably has the most famous sweeping fringe on the planet – or the most photographed one, for sure! She keeps her fringe soft which gives her to option to sweep it to either side or wear it full and in front, which makes even the most simple style more versatile.
Wearing your fringe an inch or so above your brow line can add a really fun, quirky look and is great if you wear the rest of your hair shorter than chin length. It’s not an easy look to pull off and tends to look best on women with fantastic bone structure – think Audrey Tautou in Amelie and you get the idea!
Wispy fringes are great if you have delicate features and don’t want to look as though you’re drowning under a tidal wave of hair. Dakota Johnson, star of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, looks great with her wispy fringe and wavy lob (or LONG BOB to you and I…) and manages to avoid looking like she’s drowning under heavy hair.
This photo of Lily Allen may be a bit old now, but we absolutely love the splash of colour she’s added to the front of her sweeping fringe and think it adds a really fun, contemporary feel to a classic hair-do. Lily is never one to shrink away from the limelight, but this colour is actually considerably more muted than many of the female celebs who’ve opted for a whole rainbow in their heads lately!
