Five Summer Beauty Hacks

Now that we’ve has a stretch of half decent weather which has lasted for more than a week, we’re finally confident that we can say “summer is on it’s way!”. With the changes in weather and longer days, most of us like to change our beauty routines at this time of year, so we thought we’d give you five hacks that you can use in summer to make your life easier and more comfortable.

Cling Film

If you live alone but need to apply fake tan or sun lotion to your back, there’s a simple solution that you won’t believe until you try it…head to the kitchen and grab some cling film! Cut a piece around one metre long and apply a blob of your sun cream or fake tan to the centre of the film. Then take both ends of the film and use it to rub the lotion over your back as if you were drying off with a towel to evenly spread the lotion.

Get Chilly in the Fridge

A lot of beauty products work better in the summer when you keep them in the fridge – thinks like foundation, nail polish, after sun and lip balms all stay in better condition and work more optimally when they’re refrigerated during the hot weather, and keeping them safe will protect your investment, too.

Multi-Functional Products

If you’re anything like us, you won’t feel like layering a dozen products on your skin on a hot day, so finding products which do more than one things is a good idea. Decleor Green Mandarin Sun-Kissed Glow Cream is a day cream to moisturise, help to prevent fine lines and wrinkles while giving an immediate even sun-kissed glow to all skin types.

Overnight Magic

Night creams are great for rehydrating your skin while you sleep, but if you want your hair looking its best all summer, using some dry oil before bed is a good way to do it. Decleor Satin Softening Dry Oil is scented with a subtle, delicate and beautifully feminine fragrance, and leaves your hair nourished and looking shiny.

Lighten Up

A lot of facial products feel too heavy when the sun is shining, so changing your foundation for a BB cream will help you to achieve a flawless finish without foundation. It contains an SPF and offers 24 hour hydration, as well as a natural looking tint which illuminates and evens out the complexion.

For many women, once they reach a certain age they notice that their skin has changed in many ways. Elasticity is often reduces, skin feels softer and more papery and many products can feel far too heavy to use on your face, despite the fact that dryness is often an issue for ageing skin, too. We’ve put together a list of five do’s and don’ts to help you deal with unfamiliar skin issues and so that you can avoid some of the most common mistakes that people make with ageing skin.

DON’T Drag Your Skin Down

When you’re applying an anti-ageing cream such as Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream, it can be tempting to just rub it all over your face, willy-nilly, without thinking about what the actual motion of your hand is doing to your skin. We ALWAYS recommend that women should apply creams to their faces using a sweeping upwards circular motion so that delicate skin isn’t dragged downwards. This will also help to encourage circulation, which will additionally plump the skin.

DO Opt for a Wash of Colour

Many women find that foundation is simply too heavy on their skin and no matter which primers you use, make-up will accumulate between fine lines, giving a very uneven appearance. Opt instead for a wash of colour with a BB cream which will not only give you a layer of moisture, but will help to even your skin tone and give you a base which compliments your skin’s texture.

DON’T Forget Your Neck

Skincare doesn’t finish at your chin, and having a face which is as smooth as a baby’s bottom sitting atop a neck like a turkey will do you NO favours! Remember to apply your face cream all the way down to your chest, or even invest in a product which is specifically designed for necks and décolletage areas such as Elemis Pro-Collagen Neck and Decollete Balm.

DO Invest in an Eye Cream

Eyes are probably the first place to show signs of age and while you may have got away with using an all-over face cream in your thirties or forties, once you hit your fifties you’re probably going to need to invest in something specifically for this area. Decleor Lift and Firm Eye Cream is a great place to start as it contains ingredients which will reduce puffiness, tighten the skin and even reduce dark circles around your eyes.

DON’T Neglect Your Hands

Hands are another place where ageing catches up with us, and also a place where many people forget to care for. Hands will lose moisture quicker than almost anywhere else on your body, making ageing skin look even more obvious. You may also notice areas of hyperpigmentation (known in the old days as ‘liver spots’) which will give your age away quickly! Use Elemis Pro-Radiance Hand and Nail Cream which is designed to reduce the appearance of ageing on the hands and give you more radiant skin.

Freshen Up After the Gym with Pure Beauty

Whether you’re a regular gym goer, an occasional class-taker or someone who’s just getting into the swing of fitness, having a post-gym freshen up is absolutely essential unless you want to smell less than pleasant. If you’ve worked up a real sweat, it may feel like your regular products don’t give you that just-washedQ feeling, so we’ve put together a list of products to use after your workouts to help you to feel as fresh as a daisy:

Dermalogica Conditioning Body Wash

Although this body wash from Dermalogica is completely soap-free, the unique blend of essential oils and moisturisers will not only leave your skin feeling and smelling clean, it will also soften and soothe your skin in the process. The fragrant botanical extracts provide a natural conditioning lather that gently cleanses and conditions the skin and it’s enriched with moisturising essential oils and panthenol (pro-vitamin B5) to leave skin smooth and supple.

Elemis Devils Mint Body Scrub

If your muscles are feeling fatigued, there’s a good chance that you’re going to be dealing with DOMS (that’s ‘delayed-onset muscle soreness’, in case you were wondering) for a couple of days. Giving your arms and legs a really thorough scrub and kneading while you’re in the shower can really help to reduce the amount of time you ache for and this invigorating scrub from Elemis will only improve things further.

Elemis Deep Cleanse Facial Wash

This facial wash from the Elemis Mens range is designed to deeply cleanse your face, getting rid of daily dirt and impurities and can even help to prevent ingrown hairs. The potent blend of oak bark, spearmint and peppermint in a unique milk protein base will leave your face feeling so clean that it tingles and it’s even great for keeping facial hair clean and soft, too.

Decleor Imperfections Roll-on

Working up a heavy sweat can play havoc with your complexion and sometimes even the best cleansing regime can’t keep blemishes at bay. This roll-on product from Decleor is designed to reduce the appearance of blemishes, kill the spot causing bacteria and soothe the skin, leaving it feeling purified and clean.

Decleor BB Cream 24 Hour Hydration SPF15

If you don’t want to slap on a full face of make-up after your post-gym shower but equally don’t want to go make-up free, this BB cream is a great alternative. As well as containing an SPF and ingredients which will hydrate your skin, it will give a light wash of colour and re-texturising effect like a primer, to give your skin a flawless appearance without feeling too made-up.

Stay Cool Even When The Humidity Rises

Royalty-free image

Is it just us, or does the current weather SUCK?! It’s not quite hot, not quite cold and if it’s not hacking down with rain, it’s super humid and sticky. Dealing with humidity can be so much more difficult to deal with that other extremes of weather, but there are things you can do to help keep you looking your best, even when it seems like Mother Nature is conspiring against you! Read on for our suggestions of how to cope in humid weather.

Keep Your Hair Low-Maintenance

Unless you’re REALLY lucky, you’re probably like us and closely resemble Monica Geller in Barbados when the humid air hits your hair. All the blow-drying and straightening in the world isn’t going to be enough to tame your hair in high humidity, so the best thing you can do is just not do it! Using a daily conditioning rinse will help to weigh your hair down, taming flyaway locks, but leaving it to do it’s own thing after using the rinse will give you the best chance of a smooth barnet.

Use Lighter Products

Using thick, oily or rich products will feel fairly horrible on your skin in times of high humidity, and could even end up causing spots because they don’t allow your skin to sweat and breathe enough. Opt for cooling, spritzing products like Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner to keep your skin feeling fresh and avoid breaking out into spots or areas of redness.

Make-Up is Overrated

We know it’s tempting to wear your usual full-coverage make-up all year round, but when the humidity hits, there’s a good chance that a thicker foundation won’t even stay on your face properly. Opting for a lighter version of your usual base, like Decleor BB Cream, which will give you a decent level of coverage whilst providing moisture and blemish correction, and won’t be as susceptible to the heat and humidity as thicker products.

Rid Yourself of Redness

On humid days, we basically feel hot and bothered any time we have to move around, and this can massively exacerbate any redness that you may already experience. Elemis Daily Redness Solution will ensure that your skin doesn’t flare up in the heat and humidity and will de-sensitise and comfort irritated, red and blotchy complexions. It makes a great base for make-up and when used with the Decleor BB Cream above will give you a flawless finish.

Limit Oil Production

Humidity and heat can be a nightmare if you have naturally oily skin, so preparing for humid days with an oil-reducing product is essential for keeping your skin looking great. Dermalogica Oil Free Matte SPF30 will do a two-fold job of protecting you, firstly by offering defenses against the sun’s harmful rays, but also by regulating oil production and soothing inflammation. The ultra-sheer formula absorbs surface oils to prevent shine without any powdery residue, delivering an all-day matte finish.

Be Daring This Summer!

Daring Summer LooksSummer is a time when it’s great to be daring or try something to shake your image up a bit. Here at Pure Beauty we love experimenting with our hair, make up and clothing so we thought we’d share with you a few of our summer shake up ideas to help you to be a bit more adventurous.

Colourful Dip Dye

Brightly coloured hair is totally on-trend right now, but if you aren’t brave enough for a full-on mermaid look, you could try a colourful dip dye. This has many benefits; less time and effort, lower maintenance and best of all, if you don’t like it, you can simply trim off the bottom few inches of your hair. Coloured dye usually only lasts for a few washes too, so you can change it up when you feel like it, but use Dermalogica Silk Finish Conditioner to keep hair in good condition.

Get The Chop!

Both Versace and Yves Saint Laurent had models with buzz cuts walking for them this season and going super short is rumoured to be the BIG look for winter. Obviously, it’s an incredibly bold look and a huge step if you’ve always had flowing locks, but going short might be something you’ll absolutely love…just make sure you give it a lot of thought first!

Crazy Colours

If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably been sticking to roughly the same shades in your make up bag for years now and are likely to be quite adamant about what suits you and what doesn’t. However, thinking outside the box in terms of your colour palatte could really help to liven up your look. Experiment with red lips, dark lips, smokey eyes…basically anything you’ve not tried before and you might be pleasantly surprised with the results.

Minimal Make Up

During the winter, we tend to feel more comfortable with a full coverage foundation because there are so many things which play havoc with our complexion. In summer, however, we prefer less coverage because it simply feels uncomfortable in the heat, so opting for a BB cream is a great alternative. BB creams offer sheer coverage, moisturistation, and leave you looking radiant without the need for layers.

Fringe Benefits

If you aren’t quite brave enough for super bright hair or a crazy buzz cut,why not try having a fringe cut in? Fringes can really change the whole look of your face and whether you go for a sweeping side fringe, a bold block fringe or an on-trend short fringe, you’re sure to make a statement with it.
