Skincare Do’s and Don’ts for the Over Fifities

For many women, once they reach a certain age they notice that their skin has changed in many ways. Elasticity is often reduces, skin feels softer and more papery and many products can feel far too heavy to use on your face, despite the fact that dryness is often an issue for ageing skin, too. We’ve put together a list of five do’s and don’ts to help you deal with unfamiliar skin issues and so that you can avoid some of the most common mistakes that people make with ageing skin.

DON’T Drag Your Skin Down

When you’re applying an anti-ageing cream such as Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream, it can be tempting to just rub it all over your face, willy-nilly, without thinking about what the actual motion of your hand is doing to your skin. We ALWAYS recommend that women should apply creams to their faces using a sweeping upwards circular motion so that delicate skin isn’t dragged downwards. This will also help to encourage circulation, which will additionally plump the skin.

DO Opt for a Wash of Colour

Many women find that foundation is simply too heavy on their skin and no matter which primers you use, make-up will accumulate between fine lines, giving a very uneven appearance. Opt instead for a wash of colour with a BB cream which will not only give you a layer of moisture, but will help to even your skin tone and give you a base which compliments your skin’s texture.

DON’T Forget Your Neck

Skincare doesn’t finish at your chin, and having a face which is as smooth as a baby’s bottom sitting atop a neck like a turkey will do you NO favours! Remember to apply your face cream all the way down to your chest, or even invest in a product which is specifically designed for necks and décolletage areas such as Elemis Pro-Collagen Neck and Decollete Balm.

DO Invest in an Eye Cream

Eyes are probably the first place to show signs of age and while you may have got away with using an all-over face cream in your thirties or forties, once you hit your fifties you’re probably going to need to invest in something specifically for this area. Decleor Lift and Firm Eye Cream is a great place to start as it contains ingredients which will reduce puffiness, tighten the skin and even reduce dark circles around your eyes.

DON’T Neglect Your Hands

Hands are another place where ageing catches up with us, and also a place where many people forget to care for. Hands will lose moisture quicker than almost anywhere else on your body, making ageing skin look even more obvious. You may also notice areas of hyperpigmentation (known in the old days as ‘liver spots’) which will give your age away quickly! Use Elemis Pro-Radiance Hand and Nail Cream which is designed to reduce the appearance of ageing on the hands and give you more radiant skin.

Kate Middleton’s Five Most Iconic Looks

Kate Middleton’s late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, was well known for her elegant style, and the Duchess of Cambridge seems to be following closely in her footsteps in this respect. Kate has rarely been seen with so much as a hair out of place, and there are many of her looks that we’ve greatly admired, so we thought that we’d take a loot at our five favourites.

Navy Dress

Kate Niddleton Navy Dress

One of Kate’s most iconic outfits, this dress has been replicated over and over again, with Caitlyn Jenner famously donning it for the red carpet a couple of years after Kate. The navy looks great against the Duchess’s lightly tanned skin and is a flattering cut for almost any body shape.

Breton Stripes

Kate Middleton Breton Stripes

It’s far more usual to see Kate in a dress or skirt than it is in jeans but when she does casual, she does it well. We’ve seen her in Breton stripes on more than one occasion, looking fresh-faced and relaxed, and she looks wonderfully stylish even when “off-duty”.

Full-Length Lace

Kate Middleton - Lace Gown

Kate always looks elegant but this full-length lace gown was 100% glamorous, showing us that the Duchess could turn up the heat when she needed to. Although still demure and showing minimal flesh, the lacy effect gives Kate a vampy look which is complimented by her bouncy hair!

Leather and Wellies

Kate Middleton - Leather and Wellies

It looks as though Kate is out walking the dogs in this picture, making a pair of Hunter wellies look better than we’ve ever seen them look before! Her long, slender legs look amazing in form-fitting jeans and her clear complexion is enviable to say the least.

Wedding Belle

Kate Middleton Wedding Dress

We couldn’t talk about Kate’s most iconic looks without mentioning her wedding dress, which is probably THE most iconic outfit she’s ever worn! There aren’t many people across the planet who couldn’t describe that dress if you asked them and it’s one of the most replicated wedding dress designs of all time. The dress covered her arms but exposed her décolletage, allowing just a hint of flesh whilst looking ultimately graceful.

Top Tips for a Firmer Bust

breasts, bust, decolletage, firm

Whether you’ve lost weight, breastfed your children or are suffering the signs of ageing, a firm bust is something that could be a distant memory. Even with a good bra to offer lift and support, the skin above your breasts can also lose elasticity which can ruin the overall appearance of the whole area, so we thought we’d share some tips on how to get a firmer bust.

Exercise

Although going to the gym won’t help to tighten your skin, increasing strength in your chest and shoulder muscles can help to make your chest look firmer and more gravity defying. If you’re a regular at the gym, incline flies with a dumbbell are the best way to achieve it. However, if you’re happier exercising from home, squeezing a book between flat palms for 25 reps is also a good option.

Serum

Using the right product to help to firm your skin is vital to improving the appearance of your bust and décolletage. We would highly recommend Decleor Sculpt Firming Body Serum, which is specifically formulated to combat skin sagging and improve tone and elasticity of the skin. It can also fight the appearance of stretch marks and will leave the skin looking visibly re-sculpted.

Water

Dehydration plays havoc with your skin, leaving it looking dry and papery, as well as lacking tone. Ensure you drink at least 2 litres of water per day to maintain hydration and allow your bust and chest to look plumped and firm.

Massage

Okay, so this one might sound a little bit saucy, but maintaining tip-top circulation is essential for firming up your skin and a really effective way to achieve this is through massage. Using a product such as Decleor Relax Intense Relaxing Massage Balm after a bath or to stimulate circulation will greatly improve firmness in the bust area and once you’ve gotten over the blushes from massaging your own boobs, you might even enjoy it!

Hot and Cold

If you tend to shower more than you bathe, you can use the jets of water to your advantage. When you’re just about ready to get out, turn the shower down so that it’s as cold as you can bear and aim it at your chest. Stay under the cold blast for about 15 seconds before turning it back to warm and repeat. The variation of temperature is great for your circulation and the cold tends to make your skin tighten up naturally.
