Think All Teen Skin is Oily? Think Again!

If you mention teen skin issues to almost anyone, they’re usually going to assume that you’re referring to oily skin and pimples. However, there are plenty of teenagers out there who struggle with dry skin, especially when the weather turns cold and they’re out in the elements between school and their social lives. Today, we’re sharing with you five products which could help to nourish and rebalance your teen’s dry skin:

Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Masque

Masques are a great way to treat teen skin and this one from Dermalogica contains calming botanical extracts of bitter orange, hops, cucumber and arnica reduce inflammation, while antioxidant vitamins A, C and E and pro-vitamin B5 help to nourish and replenish the skin. It’s suitable for use on all skin conditions, which means you won’t have to worry about it exacerbating eczema or acne, to which many teens are prone.

REN Clean Skincare Evercalm Gentle Cleansing Milk

Keeping the skin clean is vital when you’re a teen, but if you have dry skin you may find that many of the teen-specific cleansers are simply too harsh on your already-irritated skin. REN Clean Skincare Evercalm Gentle Cleansing Milk is a gentle cleansing milk with a multi-action formula that fights environmental aggressors, increases skin resilience and minimises the signs of irritation and sensitivity. It’s perfect for teens who want to stay clean without causing more dryness.

Dermalogica Hydrating Lotion

It goes without saying that dry skin needs moisture, but many heavy moisturisers are aimed at older people who are hoping to combat the signs of ageing – not something that’s usually at the forefront of teenage minds! Dermalogica Hydrating Lotion is a lightweight lotion that helps soothe discomfort and hydrate areas that feel dry and can also help to relieve the dryness often associated with some acne treatments.

Elemis Gentle Foaming Facial Wash

As we touched upon above, keeping teen skin clean without stripping away the natural oils can be tricky. Elemis Gentle Foaming Facial Wash is a gentle wash that combines extracts such as fig, and apple amino acid, which helps produce the foamy texture and protects the skin’s moisture barrier. It also contains the ultra-exotic Pracaxi oil, found in the depths of the Amazon rainforest, which works to soften skin, but also helps maintain its delicate balance, respecting the skin’s natural oil levels.

REN Clean Skincare Clearcalm 3 Replenishing Gel Cream

While it’s true that not all teen skin is oily, it can still be prone to breakouts, thanks to the riptide of surging hormones coursing through them on a daily basis. REN Clean Skincare Clearcalm 3 Replenishing Gel Cream is a soothing gel-cream formulated to leave blemish and breakout-prone skin comfortable and calm while helping to combat the appearance of blemishes. It nourishes the skin, reduces breakouts and will even help to fade scars from old spots.

Dermalogica All Over Toner

New bags, shiny pencil cases, smart blazers and bus passes are often top of the list when it comes to back to school preparation, but what about skincare. Getting young people into a beauty routine is a good idea and what better time than now to introduce them to something new for their skin?

Cleanse, tone and moisturise is a good place to start, so we’ll give you the low down on that first and throw in some added extra so you’ve got all bases covered and top marks will be scored.

Clean skin is happy skin, so we would suggest using the Dermalogica Foaming Wash for deep cleansing and purifying morning and night. Perfect for teenage skin that is prone to acne and breakouts, this doesn’t strip away essential oils but instead washes away nasties that don’t help the skin. Meadowsweet has been added to protect against excess sebum, salicylic acid gently exfoliates away dead cells and reduces inflammation ,while tea tree oil kills bacteria.

Next to come into play is the Dermalogica All Over Toner. This refreshing, toner contains an impressive twelve gentle botanicals that refresh, energise and revive the skin in one go. We love that orange peel and lavender oil have been added to soothe skin and when you spray it onto the face, neck and back, after cleansing, the goodness gets straight to work.

Some people think that spotty skin doesn’t need to be moisturised, but this isn’t the case as the right products help skin look and feel better. What you might have been looking for is the Dermalogica Hydrating Lotion. This lightweight, easy to use cream helps soothe the discomfort caused by breakouts, while hydrating dry patches. Apply after toning and let the ginger, orange and grapefruit soothe and protect the skin, while plant based squalane softens and nourishes it.

OK, what next?

Well, we all love a pamper, so when the homework has been done, why not try a hot bath and pop on the Dermalogica Blackhead Clearing Fizz Mask. As you soak your troubles away, the mask will decongest skin so it is clear and blackhead free. Things don’t stop there, as added kaolin clay absorbs excess oil and apple is on hand to hydrate.

Last but not least, if the pimple pops up after PE, a bottle of Dermalogica Breakout Clearing Booster in the kit bag will do the job. Salicylic acid has been added to get rid of bacteria and phytoplankton extract prevents the over drying that can happen with some harsher products. The best thing is that it works in 15 minutes, so by the end of lunch skin can be smoother and worries will be over.

Fancy trying a sample or two? Get in touch and we would love to help.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream SPF30 We have looked at cleaners and toners available on the Pure Beauty website over the past couple of weeks, and today the spotlight is on moisturisers.

The right moisturiser can turn your skin from OK to amazing, so it is a good idea to find something that works for you, and we hope one of those is listed below will be what you have been looking for.

Dry and ageing skin needs some extra love and this is what you will find in every tube of Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery. This moisturiser sinks into your skin so that it is not only hydrated but also defended against attack. The new formula came out in early 2019, and while it still has the texture and scent customers know and love, it is now powered by the latest technology which makes it better than ever. A new BioReplenish Complex contains barrier lipids which make the skin more resilient and supports recovery. Dual hyaluronic acid has been mixed with the original ingredients of echinacea, Centella Asiatica, and aloe which means happier, healthier skin with lines eased and hydration at a premium.

We love the Decleor Anti-Pollution Hydrating Gel-Cream and for good reason. This easy to use gel moisturiser helps hydrate your skin whilst protecting against damaging pollution. The unique formula includes microdroplets of oils have been placed in the water-based texture which means you get immediate hydration and beautiful smooth, luminous skin.

The fantastic Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream SPF30 is a clinically proven anti-ageing moisturiser that, wait for it, reduces wrinkles, improves firmness and hydrates. Yup, trials proved it! Padina pavonica and ginkgo biloba come with anti-oxidants that improve suppleness and elasticity and the clever kids at Elemis have added a revolutionary blend of sunscreen for protection. Let’s not forget the Elemis Promise, which means you can use this and no your skin will be free from damaging parabens, sodium laureth sulphate, mineral oils, and artificial colours.

The Jan Marini Transformation Face Cream scores top moisturiser marks when it comes to reducing the visible signs of ageing whilst providing superb hydration. Anti-ageing peptides, hyaluronic acid, powerful antioxidants, skin loving Aloe Vera and gentle plant extracts have been combined to create a moisturiser that you and your face will love. From the first application, your skin will appear smoother and have a silky softness you will adore.

We all need a little love when it comes to moisturising and this is why we wanted to mention the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream for Men. This clinically proven, nourishing moisturiser helps to hydrate, firm and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and is just for men. Potent Mediterranean algae, Padina pavonica and ginkgo biloba have been blended with soothing Abyssine™ and together they improve moisturisation, skin suppleness, firmness and elasticity.

We are big fans of the Decleor Anti-Pollution Hydrating Fluid SPF30. This moisturiser hydrates and protects your skin thanks to a velvet veil of super light SPF protection. You might be surprised but it has a fresh, transparent texture that leaves your skin feeling hydrated and comfortable, rather than stick and white. The love doesn’t stop here, as it comes with hyaluronic acid, so fine lines are plumped away and you are left feeling, and looking, fantastic.

Acne prone skin still needs to be moisturised, and we would advise the Clear Start Dermalogica Hydrating Lotion. This lightweight, but effective moisturiser helps soothe and hydrate areas that feel dry and uncomfortable. We suggest applying the cream to the face and neck, morning and night after cleansing and toning, and letting the gentle botanical properties of ginger, orange and grapefruit get to work.

If you have any questions, or would like to try a sample or two, get in touch and let’s find the right moisturiser for you.

Elemis Balancing Lavender Toner

If you have ever suffered from acne and spots you know it can be a total pain on many levels. From the redness and throbbing, to scars and cover up, blemishes can impact not only how our skin looks, but how we feel.

While we don’t have a magic wand, we wish we did, but at Pure Beauty we sell a range of first-class products that will help to calm, nourish and soothe your skin and help you to feel happy and confident about your complexion once again.

If you love your current products but need a little extra spot blasting care, we would suggest the Dermalogica Clearing Skin Wash. This gentle foaming cleanser is the perfect way to take control of breakouts and excess surface oils and has been created for breakout prone skin. Antiseptic extracts of mint, eucalyptus and tea tree come together to clear away bacteria, while menthol and camphor cool the inflammation of spots. The great thing is, the skin is left clean and bright and you know you are doing the best for your skin.

Your skin repairs as you sleep, so why not boost your love for it by using the Dermalogica Overnight Clearing Gel. This gel has been created to help clear skin congestion and help prevent future breakouts, which can only be a good thing. It is suitable for acne and breakout-prone skin and can be applied to problem areas and green tea, hyaluronic acid, rosemary, zinc, and yeast will heal your skin overnight.

All skin can benefit from using a toner and the Elemis Balancing Lavender Toner is good if you do have blemishes. This product not only tones the skin but also helps rebalance the pH levels without the use of alcohol or harsh chemicals. Extracts of sweet betty flower and saponins balance and soften the skin, while lavender helps reduce acne inflammation.

The Dermalogica Hydrating Lotion is a lightweight moisturiser that helps dehydrate, breakout-irritated skin feel better. As part of the ‘Clear Start’ range, this sheer, easy-to-apply formula helps soothe discomfort and is easier on the skin that some acne treatments. Moisturising, squalane softens and nourishes while ginger, orange, and grapefruit soothe and protect.

As the name suggests, the Dermalogica Sebum Clearing Masque is a clay masque and one that helps clear breakouts and also helps minimise premature ageing – winner! Oil-absorbing clays help to detoxify skin while salicylic acid clears the pore congestion which can really impact complexions. This can be used up to three times a week and with oat, safflower oil and niacinamide, your skin will feel soft, smooth and free from irritation.

Acne can leave scars, but the Jan Marini Bioglycolic Bioclear Cream can help. This multi-functional resurfacing cream comes with a combination of three acids that together address the appearance of acne scars, pigmentation, rosacea, fine lines, and wrinkles. For best use, cleanse your skin thoroughly before applying, then apply a thin layer to your face. Do note that excessive drying of the skin can happen, so start with one application daily and gradually increase to two or three times daily. All skin is different, so see how it goes and do what is best for you.

One final idea we have for you is the Elemis S.O.S. Emergency Cream. This is a gorgeous, intense moisturiser created to restore hydration levels, whilst repairing and de-sensitising blemish prone, dry or sensitive skin.

If you have any questions or would like to try some samples to see if they suit your skin, get in touch, and we are here to help.

 Elemis Absolute Eye Mask

Whether it is acne, dry patches, fine lines, blemishes, chapped hands or deepening wrinkles you struggle with when it comes to your skin, at Pure Beauty, we sell a range of products that can help you get to grips with the issues that trouble you the most.

All about the eyes
We love the Elemis Absolute Eye Mask because it does so much to help your eyes look fantastic. When applied to the delicate eye area it helps to decongest, firm and tone, whilst nourishing and smoothing at the same time – amazing. You can use it twice a week and by leaving the ingredients to get to work for 10 minutes, tired eyes will be brightened and revitalised.

It’s all about the combo
If you have combination skin, the Elemis Balancing Lime Blossom Cleanser could be what you have been looking for. It deeply cleanses your skin so that dirt and make-up are removed and excess oil is balanced, but not totally wiped away. Extracts of Lime Blossom, Lecithin and Vitamin E soothe and moisturise so that skin is bursting with health and vitality.

Tighten up
Adding the Jan Marini C-ESTA Serum to your beauty regime can help tone and tighten your skin in the areas you most need it. Packed with skin loving Vitamin C, this powerful antioxidant serum helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Ongoing use means lines will be less pronounced and skin will look even-toned and healthy.

Spot it
Let’s face it, we have all suffered with spots at one time or another and sometimes the creams used to help make things better, actually make them worse. The Dermalogica Hydrating Lotion soothes discomfort and hydrates dryness so your skin feels happy once again.

What about your body?
You might take care of your face, but the rest of your body needs more than shower gel to keep it in check. The Elemis Exotic Frangipani Monoi Body Cream is the answer to your prayers as this luxurious product is enriched with Macadamia and Sesame Oil and it leaves skin feeling super soft and silky smooth. Thanks to Frangipani Flowers you will smell great too.

Hand it to me
The cold weather, central heating and endless contact with water, means that our hands really do take a battering during the day. To ensure your hands are soft and smooth, we would suggest you keep a tube of Elemis Pro-Radiance Hand and Nail Cream in your bag. It has a luxurious texture which is quickly absorbed by the skin so that hands and nails are instantly rejuvenated and conditioned. Milk Protein, Avellana Seed Oil, Omega 7, Camellia, Virgin Plum and Macadamia have been blended to create a rich formula that locks in moisture. White flowers, Litsea, Jasmine, Magnolia and a hint of Vanilla, means that hands don’t only look youthful and radiant but they smell sensational too.

Tired, dull skin
If you need rescuing from tired, lacklustre, dull skin, add the Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque to your basket. This all-in-one treatment detoxifies, brightens and invigorates your skin and can be used by everyone.

If you have any questions about these, or any products we stock, get in touch and we would love to help.
