Avocado

Avocados are one of natures greatest gifts; as well as being a hugely nutritious food full of vitamins, minerals and good fats, they’re an amazing ingredient for beauty products. We’ve taken some time to go through our products and work out which ones have harnessed the power of avocados and we thought we’d share our discoveries with our lovely readers:

Dermalogica Daily Cleansing Shampoo

Avocado is a key ingredient in Dermalogica’s shampoo as it provides key oils which offer the hair moisture, helping to protect against breakage and keep the hair super soft and smooth. It contains antioxidant-rich ingredients which shield hair from heat and sun damage and is completely free of drying detergents and harsh chemicals. As well as containing avocado oil, it also benefits from grapefruit, lavender and coconut oil to keep your hair in tip-tip condition.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream

This night cream from Elemis is packed with antioxidants from avocado oils, as well as sesame oil, which protect the skin against free-radicals, deeply moisturise and provide a deep dose of anti-ageing magic. This night cream raises the skins ability to absorb oxygen, replenishes the skin to improve moisturisation and prevent future water loss and has a satin texture to leave your skin feeling plump, brighter and hydrated

Dermalogica Lip Renewal Complex

This lip treatment from Dermalogica is SO much more than your average lip balm. As well as restoring moisture to dry lips, it contains powerful ingredients which slow down the ageing process, reverse fine lines around the mouth and give an overall appearance of a more youthful, plumped lip. Avocado is included alongside cacao seed butter, rice bran oil, wheatgerm oil and shea butter to smooth and condition lip tissue while helping to prevent hydration.

Decleor 24 Hour Hydrating Rich Cream

This cream from Decleor is designed to cocoon the skin, giving nourishment for a full 24 hours to skin which is in dire need of deep rehydration. Rosehip oil provides essential fatty acids to the face, while avocado and soy plant oils offer comfort, especially in the winter months when conditions can be a little too harsh for skin which is prone to dryness. It offers a velvety finish and preserves the skins natural beauty.

Dermalogica UltraCalming Serum Concentrate

Avocado has an incredible soothing power which makes it perfect for skin which is hyper-sensitised, red and inflamed. This concentrated serum from Dermalogica helps to soothe, defend and correct skin which is suffering from sensitivity and flare-ups and can also be used following cosmetic procedures for calming and soothing skin. Avocado, as well as evening primrose and sunflower oils, will intensify the skins natural lipid barriers to improve skin from the inside out.

Look After Your Lips

Royalty-free image

Your lips are one of those areas which take a lot of punishment, be it with long-wear lipsticks which dry them out, too much sun, cold weather, central heating, dehydration, there seems to be a million ways that they can end up damaged! Fortunately, the geniuses at Elemis, Dermalogica and Decleor have many products which will help you to keep your lips in perfect condition, despite any external factors. Here are our favourites:

Elemis Lip Revive

Petroleum-based lip preparations may feel like they’re lubricating your lips but they are actually well-known for drying your lips out over the long term. This nourishing lip reviver from Elemis contains no petroleum and is based on a natural combination of white beeswax and peppermint oil which will soothe dry, chapped lips and make your pout appear plumper.

Decleor Post-Wax Cream – Sensitive Areas

Lots of women don’t talk about the fact that they wax their upper lip or other areas of the face, but you’d be surprised just how many of us do it on a regular basis. The skin under your ‘tache is pretty delicate though and can end up red and damaged with too much waxing, so this cream from Decleor has been designed specifically to soothe sensitive areas like your top lip after waxing. It also prevents ingrown hairs and slows regrowth, making it less necessary to wax so often.

Elemis Pro-Definition Eye and Lip Contour Cream

Thinner skin around the lips means that this is one area which is particularly susceptible to wrinkles and the dreaded “cat’s bum” mouth (not our favourite expression, but a descriptive one nonetheless!), an affliction particularly seen on smokers. This cream from Elemis is gentle yet powerful and is designed for the delicate eye and lip areas which need a boost. It contains active plant stem cells from edelweiss, as well as mafane flower and alaria esculenta which combine to make the areas appear firmer, plumper and redensified.

Dermalogica Lip Renewal Complex

As we age, our body loses the ability to produce collagen and retain moisture, which can leave it looking prematurely aged and wrinkled. This Lip Renewal complex from Dermalogica has a sophisticated formula which minimises contour lines and smoothes rough, uneven lips. Its superior conditioning lasts hours beyond application and is ideal for wearing alone or as a smoothing primer before lipstick application.

Elemis White Flowers Eye and Lip Make-Up Remover

With long-lasting, matte lipsticks more popular than ever before, having a product which removes all traces of make-up whilst conditioning the lips is really important. Elemis White Flowers Eye and Lip Make-Up Remover cleanses the eye and lip area of all make-up, including waterproof mascara. Formulated with White Peony extract to hydrate and cooling White Tea to soothe and refresh.

Fight the Signs of Ageing with Dermalogica and DecleorOne of the most common reasons for new customers coming to Pure Beauty is because they want to combat the signs of ageing and renew their youthfulness. There are lots of areas of the face where ageing can be a problem, so we’ve compiled a list to help you to get the best products for your specific problem.

Eyes

The skin around the eyes is perhaps the most delicate of the whole face and needs really specific products to keep the signs of ageing at bay. Decleor Regenerating Eye and Lip Cream has been formulated for use on the most delicate of areas and helps reduce puffiness and dark circles around eyes and smoothes fragile contours to regenerate, plump and invigorate the eye.

Mouth

The lips are the area of the face which move the most and as such are prone to fine lines around the outside, especially if you’ve been or are a smoker. Dermalogica Lip Renewal Complex is designed to replenish lost moisture in the lips and surrounding area minimising contour lines and helping to prevent the signs of ageing.

Hands

People often neglect the skin on their hands but it’s usually the area of the body which gets the roughest deal. Between gardening, harsh chemicals in cleaning products and a million other things that ruin the condition of your hands, they probably need MORE care than the rest of your body, not less! Decleor Dark Spot Corrector Concentrate can be used anywhere on your body where there are areas of hyper-pigmentation, but it’s great for use on your hands where these spots are often at their worst.

Body

When we think of ageing, we usually concentrate on our faces but our bodies can show signs of ageing too. Opting for a potent serum like Decleor Youth Activator Body Serum, which can be used all over your body, will help to replenish lost moisture and nutrients, encourage cell regrowth and will help to smooth and firm your whole body.

Nails

You may think that nails can’t show signs of age, but even they can become brittle, dry and discoloured as we age, so using a dedicated nail treatment like Dermalogica Multivitamin Hand and Nail Treatment is a really good idea. It’s a non-greasy treatment which will strengthen your nails and help to reverse discolouration, giving your hands their youthful looks back.

glitter-lipsGlitter lips are a trend which has been gaining momentum for some time now, but with autumn and winter on the way, they’re set to make an explosion! They might look like something which should be confined to the catwalks but according to anyone who knows anything about fashion, everyone will be adorned with glitter in the coming months.

It’s one of those trends which can be quite tricky to get right, so we thought we’d put together some tips for keeping your lips in tip-top condition so that you can be festive from now until next spring!

Exfoliate

Flaky lips will not only look unpleasant when covered in glitter, it would probably be quite tricky getting glitter to stick to them in for first place. Exfoliating beforehand with Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant will help to slough away dead skin, giving you a much better surface for bedazzling.

Moisturise

If your lips are overly dry or aging prematurely, you’ll want to start a regimen of moisturistation before you get glittery. Dermalogica Lip Renewal Complex is the perfect product to add moisture to your lips while minimising contour lines and helping to prevent the signs of aging.

Line

To get a really good, even coverage of colour you’ll want to use a lip liner in a similar colour to your glitter to create a really defined outline and then fill your lips with liner, too. This will give you the perfect base to work from.

Gloss

The final step before applying your glitter with a soft brush is covering your lips with gloss. The gloss gives something for the glitter to stick to and will add to the overall shimmery effect of your lips. Choose either a clear gloss or one which is a similar colour to your glitter and using the ‘gloopiest’ gloss you can find will help when it comes to getting as much glitter as possible to stick to your lips.

Cleanser

Obviously, wearing glitter on your face is going to leave you needing a pretty heavy-duty cleanser once you’re ready to de-glitter. We’d recommend Decleor Brightening Cleansing Oil to really help to remove all glitter, plus the layers of make-up beneath, and leave your skin looking radiant and luminous.

How To Make Your Lips Look Fuller

fuller lipsOkay, so while we’d like to espouse a message of being happy with yourself exactly the way you are, we know that everyone has their insecurities and if we can do something to help then we should. Lots of women feel that their lips aren’t full enough and turn to surgery to enhance them, but there are lots of products you can use and lots of tricks to help your lips look fuller without going under the knife, so we thought we’d share some of them here.

Exfoliate

When you use your Dermalogica Exfoliating Face Brush to clear away dead skin from your face, spend a little time concentrating on your lips. Sloughing away dead skin will improve the appearance of your lips, making them look smoother, but it will also increase circulation in this area and give the illusion of plumper lips.

Moisturise

Using a product to moisturise your skin is the first step to healthy lips, but opting for a product with cell renewal and plumping action is a no-brainer. Dermalogica Lip Renewal Complex is a powerful daily treatment designed to restore delicate tissue while minimising contour lines and helping to prevent the signs of ageing.

Line

Using a lip liner which is one or two shades darker than your own lips to create a lip-line just outside your natural lip line will help you to create a fuller look whilst remaining natural. Obviously, practice is key as is getting the right shade, but with a steady hand and a decent lip pencil you can significantly improve the fullness of your mouth.

Highlight

Once you’ve lined and coloured your lips with your chosen shades, use a highlighting pencil, or a little highlighter on a fine brush to accentuate your cupids bow and the area below the middle of your bottom lip. We’re not quite sure WHY this makes your lips look fuller but it really does!

Gloss

Using a little lip gloss only in the middle of your lips is another clever, inexpensive way to make your lips look fuller. Wait until you’ve done your liner, colour and highlighting and use a little clear gloss in the middle third of your mouth. You can also use a little bit of neutral, shimmery powder to create a similar effect if you don’t like the feeling of gloss.
