Anyone who has had their heart-broken, and let’s face it, most of us have, knows that getting back on the dating scene can be tough. Your confidence may have been shattered, you may not feel like trusting anyone again and seeing your ex on Facebook with someone new might send you crashing back under your duvet not wanting to face the world ever again.

The thing is, time really is a healer and at some point you will start to feel better and will want to get out again and even meet someone new.

The temptation for many people is to get carried away and jump into a full-on relationship with the first person you meet. We aren’t saying this never works and love at first sight doesn’t happen, but if you don’t know someone very well, then getting into an intense relationship too early could spell disaster in the long-term.

We have put together some top tips you may want to consider before going out there and dating someone new.

Don’t compare them to people from your past
When you first meet someone new, it is hard not to compare them with your ex, but you need to. For any new relationship to stand a chance of going somewhere, it is best to start with a blank canvas that doesn’t have the cloud of your past experiences overshadowing the possibilities of something new. Just because your last partner was a cheat, it doesn’t mean that everyone else will have a roving eye or everyone will lie to you. You may still hold a candle for someone you thought was ‘the one’, but they weren’t and if you compare everyone to them, you could be heading for a table for one.

Put the deal-breakers on the table
You don’t want to scare someone off but sounding out deal-breakers such as marriage, kids and location is something you may want to do early on, but not in the first five minutes. If you really want to have children in the future and your date is totally against it, they aren’t going to be the one for you. If you are happy living in London and their long-term plan is to sit in the sun in Sydney, you might want to consider what life with them would be really like and if you are willing to give up your dreams so they can make theirs come true. We aren’t saying only go on one date, but if you aren’t willing to compromise, and they aren’t either, this won’t work out, so have fun, but don’t get in too deep!

Are you on the same page?
If red flags are flying, there is usually a reason for this and we would suggest that you follow your gut instincts. Maybe they’ve never had a serious relationships, it could be that they have been married four times already or maybe they are addicted to dating apps. We all have a past, but you will soon get an idea of what someone is like and whether they are on the same level as you when it comes to emotional maturity and stability.

Find common ground
They say that opposites attract, but if your date lives and breathes football, and you hate it, how will you feel when it takes up every weekend and three evenings a week? If you are a vegan and they love a burger for dinner, how does that sit with you? You love being outside and they are a keen gamer – will that be a winner for you? No one is perfect, but you do need to be with someone who shares some of your interests and values or it could be a lonely love affair.

Take it slow
Many relationship grow organically over time, alongside trust, so don’t be in a rush. If you are feeling that they are too clingy, absent or let you down time and again, address that sooner rather than later, and if you think this could be it, just take your time and see where things are going.

You deserve to be happy, so enjoy dating, find someone you really click with and trust, and once you take off the rose-tinted glasses from the past you may well find the perfect partner for your future.

Regardless of generation or age, these days, men are investing more time, energy and money in their appearance than ever before.

At Pure Beauty we are here to help everyone look, and feel, great, and today we are looking at products that give men a boost!

The Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream for Men has been created just for men and helps to hydrate and firm their skin and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. From the word go, skin is left looking smoother than before and feels refreshed and replenished. Mediterranean Algae, Padina Pavonica, Ginkgo Biloba and soothing Abyssine™ come together to help with suppleness, firmness and elasticity – what’s not to like?

The Decleor Triple Action Shave Perfector is a super serum that prepares the skin for shaving. A cocktail of essential oils have been mixed to meet the exact needs of men’s skin and this can lead the way to a smoother, clearer, fuss-free shave. Applying three drops of the serum to cleansed skin will prepare it for shaving, and when used after your shave, it can soothe razor burns and enhance the effectiveness of your other products.

With a month’s supply of the world’s first fully customisable shave routine, the Dermalogica Shave Essentials Trio shows you how well you can treat your skin when shaving. The set comes with the Dermalogica Daily Clean Scrub (44ml), Dermalogica Soothing Shave Cream (74ml) and Dermalogica PostShave Balm (10ml) and we think you will be hooked after your very first shave.

Whether it’s from golf, driving, football or gardening, the Elemis Aching Muscle Super Soak will help to ease overworked, tired muscles. This natural foaming bath soak smells amazing and works wonders on aches and pains. Extracts of Birch, Juniper, Clove, Alpine Lavender, Wild Thyme and Blue Chamomile have been mixed with Sea Salt which together warm muscles and recharge bodies.

Men don’t escape the ravages of time, which is why so many of them love the Elemis Anti-Ageing Time Defence Eye Reviver. This lightweight anti-ageing men specific eye cream has been clinically proven to reduce the depth of wrinkles by up to 37% in less than a month and increase skin hydration by up to 82% in the same time period – wow! Created to help support skin elasticity and to tighten, firm and hydrate, this will be a welcomed addition to any bathroom cabinet.

When it comes to the sun, everyone needs protection. The Dermalogica Protection 50 Sport SPF50 defends against UV light and can be used by anyone, so no excuses boys. Oleosome Microspheres enhance the performance of the SPF and counteract the moisture loss that can be triggered by being out in the sun. The cream sinks into the skin without a greasy after-feel and should be liberally rubbed into your skin at least 15 minutes before going into the sun.

If you have any questions, or would like to try before you buy, get in touch and we can give advice and send samples.

How did we go from back to school excitement to half term chaos in the blink of an eye?

If it seems like you only yesterday you marched your little ones off to school and now they are asking what the holidays have in store, don’t worry we are here to help.

We have done a little research and come up with some fun activities that will keep the whole brood happy all week long.

Get outside
Make the most of the last of the sun and get outside. Enjoy a walk, explore a nature trail, climb some trees or follow a car free cycle route. This half term there are apple festivals and den building, canoe courses and footballs camps to take part in all over the place. Whether you live in the city or country, by the sea or near the river, there is nothing like bundling up and getting some fresh air, stopping on the way home for a hot chocolate and muffin.

Get cooking
Half term is the perfect opportunity to do some baking at home. Cakes and muffins, pies and crumbles, the ideas are endless. Have a look online for some new ideas and why not start a blog to share you wares. You could even get a head start on Christmas and get your cake made and ready in the tin for decorating.

Catch up in some films
Term time can be crazy with extra clubs and activities and fun things, like watching films, can get lost in the madness. Why not use this half term to kick back and catch on the latest blockbusters? Nine Lives, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Trolls and Storks are all currently playing and are apparently worth a watch. Look out for the family mornings where tickets can be as little as £2.50 and there are offers on pick and mix. If you prefer popcorn and flicks from the comfort of your own home, grab some DVDs, dim the lights and enjoy a movie marathon on your sofa.

Pick up a pumpkin.
There are events on farms, garden centres and even in local coffee shops where you can go and try out pumpkin carving for yourself. The stakes get higher every year and levels of creativity are at an all time high in 2016. From traditional ghosts to Mario and even Dan TDM, never has it been so exciting when it comes to pumpkins.

Have a clear out
With everyone at home why not go though the playroom and bedrooms and get rid of the games, toys and clothes that no needs anymore. Take puzzles, jumpers and old trains to the charity shop and feel good about giving back and taking stock.

Visit the beach
Buckets and spades, boots and scarves are all on the list for a day by the seaside in the winter sun. A day on the beach, building sand castles and looking for shells, will take you back to basics and put colour in your cheeks. Once the sun goes down, head to the pub for fish and chips and a pint of cider and start planning your next trip to the sea.

Throw a Halloween party
Whilst most people actually go back to school on 31st October, there is no reason why you can’t host a fab party the weekend before. Your local supermarket will be jam packed with ghoulish snacks and scary costumes, so send out the invites, get the apple bobbing set up and prepare to have one scary night. Oh, and don’t forget to put the pumpkin you craved outside, so the trick or treaters know you are waiting for them.

After all that fun, be sure to order yourself a pampering treat from Pure-Beaty and sit back and relax knowing you have done a great job.

There is no doubt that the Rio Olympics have been amazing.

From the start of the opening ceremony, we know we were in for a sporting spectacular and we certainly haven’t been disappointed.

With Andy Murray in the tennis, Laura Trott on the cycle circuit and Becky James on the track being just some of the winners, it has been a gripping couple of weeks.

With so much action on screen, this is the perfect time to be inspired by Team GB, and athletes from around the world, to get off the sofa and spring into action.

No matter what your fitness ability or interest, we are sure there is an activity out there that is perfect just for you.

If you are looking for choice when it comes to sport, look no further than athletics. This discipline offers a wide range of options that keep you on your toes and motivated to go for gold. Running, jumping, sprinting, throwing, it is all in this mix. With Mo Farah and Jessica Ennis-Hill leading the way and inspiring a generation, never has it been a better time to join a local club and get involved.

Badminton is a great choice for the whole family. The weightless racquets, low start up costs and easy to understand rules means toddlers, grandparents and everyone in-between can have a bash. Get it set up in the garden in the summer and when it gets colder, book an indoor court to keep your fitness levels up.

Riding a bike isn’t just a way to get from a to b, it is also a fantastic way to get fit, get some fresh air and tone up. This low impact sport is becoming increasingly popular and with a range of bikes for sale at various price points, and to loan or rent, it is easier than ever to get on the Sir Bradley Wiggins bandwagon.

Combining acrobatics, water and speed, there is little more thrilling than diving. Tom Daley has bought edge and excitement back into this Olympic staple and he and the team have a loyal fan base and big dreams. This isn’t the sport for you if you don’t like heights, but if you are looking to get fit and want an adrenaline buzz, this could be the sport for you.

If team sports are your thing, and you have been inspired by Crista Cullen and the GB team why not give hockey a try this autumn? Whilst this is is a fast paced game, it can be played by all levels of fitness and local teams are often looking for new members, and beginners.

Forget the ropes and vaults in the school hall, gymnastics is becoming increasingly popular and it is easy to see why. The men and women in Rio make it look slick and elegant but these performances takes years to perfect. One of the keys to real success is starting young so why not take your toddler to a pre-school gymnastics club and watch them cartwheel and jump to their hearts content?

Table tennis is an Olympic favourite that has viewers sitting on their edge of their seats. This is a fast, fun, easy to play game that gets you fit and as it is mainly played indoors, the British weather can’t spoil it.

With accessible sports like football, rugby, rowing and so much more being broadcast day and night, we hope you will want to put on your trainers and go out and do something less boring instead.

sport related skincarePlaying a sport can be good for us in so many ways; as well as helping to keep us fit and healthy, playing a sport can encourage mental wellness and a feeling of accomplishment. However, there can be a slight downside to certain sports, in that they’re tough on your body in other ways. We thought we’d look at some of the most popular sports, their effects on your beauty regime and what you can do to help.

Cycling

Ever since Bradley Wiggins brought the yellow jersey home from the Tour de France and Team GB did so well at the cycling events at the London 2012 Olympics, the UK seems to have caught cycling fever! Cycling is an excellent way to get a full body workout and if you’re brave enough can still be done in both rain and shine. It can, however, be tough on your hands and encourage callouses and rough skin to develop. We’d recommend Decleor Nourishing and Smoothing Hand Cream which will nourish the hands and protect them from the elements, as well as Dermalogica Multivitamin Hand and Nail Treatment as an overnight treatment to repair the cuticles and give deep moisturisation.

Tennis

Tennis is a great sport for both exercise and socialisation, and joining a tennis club can do wonders for both your health and your social life. During the summer months, you’ll likely be playing outside which means that a good sun lotion will be in order. Protect your face whilst keeping a flawless complexion with Decleor Multi-Protection BB Cream SPF15 in light, medium or dark and protect your body with Dermalogica Protection 50 Sport SPF50, a product specifically designed to be used during sport and therefore won’t be affected by perspiration.

Football

Women’s football is becoming more popular than ever, with Liverpool Ladies and England Captain Gemma Bonner providing a hugely positive role-model for girls around the country. There’s no doubt that football is a physically demanding sport, and 90 minutes of running (and that’s not counting added time…) is enough to give even the fittest sportsperson tired legs. We recommend that you put some life back into your aching pins with Decleor Circulagel Refreshing Leg Gel.

Swimming

Swimming offers perhaps the best full body workout of any sport, with breaststroke estimated to work at least 30 of the major muscles. There’s no doubt though, that the chemicals used to clean a pool can be hard on your hair if you swim regularly and even salt can be harmful if you’re lucky enough to live somewhere warm enough to swim in the sea. You’ll need to use haircare products which are powerful enough to cleanse away the chemicals without stripping your hair of you use them every day so products such as Dermalogica Shine Therapy Shampoo and Dermalogica Silk Finish Conditioner are an important addition to your bathroom.
