www.pexels.comYou can buy them socks, chocolate or a bottle of wine, but there is something special about giving a book as a gift at Christmas.

Think fresh new pages, lots of ideas and inspiration as well as the chance for them to escape from life for just a little while.

We have some great books to share with you that should be stocked in your local bookshop and will make someone smile this Christmas when they unwrap it.

The Nightshift Before Christmas, Adam Kay
This Is Going to Hurt was Adam’s first book and his bold, poignant look at life inside a hospital was a massive success. His small, but perfectly formed follow-up, The Nightshift Before Christmas is a great stocking filler and while not for the faint hearted, it’s worth a read.

Slay in Your Lane: The Journal, Yomi Adegoke and Elizabeth Uviebinené
This stunning illustrated book is all about empowering women and with practical exercises, worksheets, and easy to follow tips for success, it’s a Christmas must-buy. It gives readers all they need to get ahead in relationships, looks at how to start a successful side hustle, knowing your worth at work comes into play as well as info on cash, self-care, and good health. Sound good, no?

Me: Elton John Official Autobiography
You might have seen the film, but we think the book is even better. This celebrity autobiography is cool, cutting, camp, extravagant and packed with disco-dancing, football club buying stories intended to make the reader laugh and cry. Go on, they will love it and might let you borrow it too.

The Little Library Year, Kate Young
Food and books, what’s not to like? This gorgeous book takes recipes onto a whole new level as Kate shares seasonal, mouth-watering meals and treats that will make the reader want to put on an apron on and start cooking right away. Oh, and summer might seem a long time away, but she knows how to pack a picnic basket!

Fleabag: The Scriptures, Phoebe Waller-Bridge
If they loved the TV series, they will love this book. We couldn’t put it down and they won’t be able to either. Perfect for reading with a glass of wine, with a gorgeous scented candle burning, so you might want to buy those too?

A Word for Every Day of The Year, Steven Poole
Small but mighty – this is the book for the person who has everything. As the name suggests, inside the cover are 365 words to educate, intrigue and inspire. We will warn you, if you start to read, you won’t want to stop until the end so maybe buy two copies and keep one for yourself.

The Snowman, Raymond Briggs
We can’t leave the kids out, so why not introduce them to this Christmas classic? Yes, you can watch the film on TV and sing along with Aled Jones, but turning the pages of The Snowman is as much a part of the festive season as Secret Santa and mince pies. Go up in your mum’s loft and you never know, you might find an original gathering dust.

Lady in Waiting, Anne Glenconner
Glitz, glamour and drama, no we aren’t talking about the office party but this beauty of a book! Lady Glenconner was Princess Margaret’s lifelong friend and this is a lush, compelling read all about them and a real look at royal life. The rich and posh – it’s all here on these pages to read and we think it’s worth doing exactly that.

Wham! George & Me, Andrew Ridgeley
Before we go, go – sorry, not sorry! This is an emotional read and Wham! fans may well need to get their tissues ready when they dive into this belter of a book. George and Andrew might have met in 1975, but their music lives on in our hearts today, thank goodness.

Got a book you love, let us know, we are ready and waiting to hear from you.

www.pexels.com
If you hate going to the gym and feel intimated by fancy fitness studios, why not jump on the digital bandwagon and get fit with an app?

OK, you will need a certain amount of willpower and determination, but free from judgement and competiton, by downloading an app, you can work-out when it suits you, wherever you like and you can often track your progress so you stay motivated too.

We have had a look at some of the best options out there to keep you in tip-top condition.

Gixo
Day and night, teachers are available on Gixo for 15, 25 and 40-minute sessions of running, walking, HIIT and strength routines that you can do without having to leave your living room. With no excuses about not being able to find time to get to the gym, you can try a free trial at home and then get to work with the ‘four week to summer fitness programme’ – what are you waiting for?

Daily Yoga
If you want something a little less intense and a bit more zen, then the Daily Yoga app offers over 100 yoga and meditation classes with plenty of poses to choose from. From sun salutations, warrior poses and downward dogs, you can chill out and tone up with this app and the meditation offerings mean this is a one stop de-stress and focus shop.

From Couch to 5k
If you haven’t heard of ‘From Couch to 5K’ where have you been ? This app is quite literally taking people from the comfort of their couch to the 5K finish line in weeks. It is perfect if you are a total beginner who wants to try running, but isn’t sure where to start. You only have to sweat for 30 minutes per day, three days a week for nine weeks to get to your target distance, and we think that you will be hooked on running before then! Why not get a friend involved and you can get fit, together?

Six Pack in 30 Days
Got a beach holiday coming up? Then you might want to strengthen your abs with ‘Six Pack in 30 Days’. No fancy gear is needed to do these ab workouts and the programme is suitable for total newbies. The app clearly shows you how to do classic core workouts like Russian twists and reverse crunches which will help you to work up a sweat, but make you look fab-tastic.

Strava
Not that exercise has to be a competition, but if you want to compare your performance with friends this app cold help to give you that extra push towards the finish line. Strava is a great way to keep track of running and cycling distances, speeds as well as endurance, and believe us, it can become as addictive as those feel good endorphins.

Studio Tone It Up
If community is important to you, then Studio Tone It Up could be what you have been looking for. Without leaving the house, you will be guided through workouts that will help to get your body toned and your mind strong. There’s a choice of yoga, cardio, barre, boxing, kettlebell, and more on offer and with new classes arriving every week, there’s no chance of getting board, just fit.

Headspace
Not everyone is looking for a physical workout, and if that is you, then how about trying the a wellness journey with the Headspace app? Start things off with a free 10-day beginner’s course that shows you the essentials of practicing mindfulness on a daily basis and with meditating known to help ease insomnia and increase productivity at work, you never know where this could lead.

Got an app you think we would like? Let us know about it and we will give it a go.

We stock a wide range of present perfect options and we think we can help you to tick off anyone who is still left on your list.

A lovely set that we have just for Christmas, is the Decleor You, Me, Mistletoe Christmas Gift Set and we think most people would love to find this under the tree. You get the Decleor Intense Nutrition Lip Balm which has been enriched with Marjoram Essential Oil, Shea Butter and Macadamia Oil and protects lips from dryness and leaves them feeling soft and smooth. The Decleor Hydra Floral Everfresh Hydrating Light Cream illuminates and protects skin thanks to a powerful combination of Neroli Essential Oil and Baikal Skullcap Root. Finally, the hat trick for this gift is a tube of Decleor Aroma Cleanse 3 in 1 Hydra Radiance Cleansing Mousse which is made from Neroli Essential Oils and Green Tea Essential Water which, together, restore radiance, and add moisture.

If you have a friend who needs spoiling, we think that the Elemis Superfood Facial Wash is a good place to start. This gorgeous, nourishing wash revives and refreshes whilst gently cleansing the face and neck. Made from a blend of Avocado, Broccoli and Pumpkin Seed Oils with added Wheatgrass, Kale, and Nettle, this really is a super food shake for the skin and will leave it glowing, healthy and bright – just like the Christmas tree.

For that tricky teen, why not try the Dermalogica Clear Start Breakout Clearing Kit? This cool looking set comes with three great products that are perfect for teenagers with acne or breakout prone skin. The Dermalogica Foaming Wash has been designed to be used morning and night and will gently wash away dirt. The Dermalogica Breakout Clearing Booster is a fast acting acne treatment made with Salicylic Acid which helps to deal with breakout causing bacteria and works in just 15 minutes. It also comes with the Dermalogica Skin Soothing Hydrating Lotion which is easy to apply and helps to soothe and hydrate acne irritated skin.

For that hard to buy for family member, why not go for the Decleor Nourishing Body Balm? This intensive body balm that nourishes and moistures the skin and leaves it feeling soft and supple. With a Christmas twist, this beauty is made from a rich blend of Frankincense Essential Oil, Shea Butter, Tamanu and Macadamia Oils, this is the perfect present for someone who has everything except perfect skin.

For a festive looking treat that would be a valued addition to any bathroom, a pot of Elemis Lime and Ginger Salt Glow ticks all the boxes. This luxurious exfoliation product is made from a unique blend of Lime, Ginger and Salt together with Bergamot, Coconut and Sweet Almond Oils. From the very first use, these salts will stimulate and tone the skin and leave it looking fab and feeling super soft.

If you have a last-minute Secret Santa to buy before the big day, we think the winning ticket could be the Dermalogica Daily Glow Duo Christmas Gift Set. The lucky recipient will be able to try the Dermalogica PreCleanse Balm which dissolves oil and dirt from the surface of the skin, and the light, milky emulsion leaves behind a fresh complexion. This is also a great way to try the fantastic Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant for the first time. This product has a unique rice based powder formula that comes to life when mixed with water. It is the activated Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes that come together to exfoliate away clogging dead cells so that skin is left looking smoother and brighter.

So put in your orders as soon as possible and if you need any help doing that, get in touch and we would love to help.

Happy Christmas.

Going out and partying might all weekend seem like a good way to escape from the stress of everyday life, but while it is fun at the time, it could actually do more harm than good in the long run.

Whether it’s your boss, brother or your neighbours who are causing your problems, if you can identify the triggers and take control, you will hopefully start to feel better and have a more positive approach and outlook.

Build a Network
Bottling things up and trying to do everything alone isn’t good for anyone, so try to establish a network of people in your life who are good for you. These can be family members, friends or work colleagues who you really connect with, relax with and have a good time with and who will cheer you on when times are good and give you a lift when it gets a little cloudy.

Be Active
Yes, scrolling through social media might take your mind of things, but getting off the sofa and exercising can reduce emotional intensity, clear your thoughts and let you deal with your problems in a calmer way. Find something that you really enjoy doing, maybe buddy up with a friend and go to the gym, swim before work or take a dance class – there is something for all of us you just have to find it. As the feel good endorphins work around your body, they will take down those feelings of stress and you will start to feel empowered and able to move forwards once again

Challenge Yourself
Setting yourself goals and challenges, such as learning a language, starting a blog or playing a new sport, not only helps build confidence but reduces stress, so give it a go.

Take Some ‘Me Time’
If you work long hours and have family demands, it can be hard to take time out for you and this can add to your stress levels. If might sound selfish and indulgent, but finding time to meet with friends, relax with a book or just grab a quiet cuppa in a coffee shop, is important. Put something in your diary at the start of each week then stick to it and you will be surprised at the difference stepping back from everything can make to your life.

Give Back
When you stop thinking that everything is about you, life can change for the better. Getting involved in a local community project or volunteering your time to a cause close to your heart, can give you a new focus and give you a whole new perspective. Whether it is a visiting elderly people and reading to them, digging out a pond in the park or raising money for a children’s hospice, this can really help to take the focus away from your life and lift your mood.

Be Positive
Looking for the positives in life, and seeing the things you’re grateful for can be a real eye opener. Don’t be the glass is half empty person because your to list is growing day by day, instead see the glass is half full because you have a job you enjoy and can afford to go on holiday as well as pay your bills and eat out once a week. Simply writing down three things that went well, before you go to bed can make you start to see the good in life, rather than just looking at what is hard.

Breath
If you do nothing else, sit down, close your eyes and take five minutes out to focus on your breath and regroup. Nothing is so important on your to do list that it can’t wait just a little bit longer and meditation is a free, easy and fantastic way to deal with stress, so give it a go!

If you do feel that your stress is getting out of control, speak to your GP and ask them for some professional help.

Dermalogica Conditioning Wash

If you’re rushing back to work after a lunchtime spinning session or meeting friends after a HITT class, you might want to skip the shower and head straight out of the door.

Don’t!

As well as leaving you a little smelly and sweaty and not very popular with your colleagues, it won’t do your skin or hair any favours.

At Pure Beauty we sell a range of products that you can throw in your gym bag and will leave you looking, feeling and smelling clean and fresh wherever you are heading next.

Cleanse away
Ideally, don’t wear make-up when you exercise as this can clog your pores as you sweat. Use the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel before and after your step class and let the soap-free, foaming gel remove impurities without disturbing your skin’s delicate natural moisture balance. Skin-soothing Balm Mint cools and calms the skin which is exactly what you need after a workout, while Lavender Extract purifies and smells great too. Simply lather onto your face, rinse away with warm water and your skin will thank you for it.

Jump in the shower
The Dermalogica Conditioning Body Wash is packed with natural extracts making it suitable for all skin types and perfect for washing away sweat, odours and germ. Soothing essential oils of Sandalwood, Lavender, Orange and Clary Sage moisturise the skin, leaving it smooth and conditioned and because it uses naturally-foaming Quillaja Saponaria Extract this fantastic wash can be used by anyone because it doesn’t upset the natural balance of the skin.

Wash and go
There is nothing worse than heading out with greasy, sweaty hair, so take the Dermalogica Daily Cleansing Shampoo into the shower after that weights session. This great smelling, nourishing, daily shampoo leaves you with healthy, shiny hair however hard you have been working. Argan Oil adds softness, shine and manageability while Coconut Oil strengthens cuticles and thanks to Grapefruit, Lavender and Geranium Oils, your senses are awakened and your hair smells great.

If you need an extra boost, follow with the Dermalogica Daily Conditioning Rinse which will add brilliant shine and bounce which air-conditioned gyms and chlorinated pools can take away.

Lock in the moisture
When you sweat, your body loses moisture which can leave you and your skin dehydrated so when you step out of the shower and are dry, treat your limbs to a generous application of Dermalogica Body Hydrating Cream. This lush cream is quickly absorbed by the skin, which is what you need to if are running to meet a friend at the bar, and will help smooth and soften your skin. We love that is packed with essentials oils which not only sink into your skin but leave it smelling fantastic too.

Hide the red
If you are heading back to work after your exercise class, ease that post-workout redness by applying the Dermalogica Sheer Tint. This lightly tinted moisturiser provides a sheer wash of colour and is perfect if you don’t want to irritate your complexion as it cools down. While it offers protection from the sun, it isn’t chalky or drying but does help with hydration and signs of ageing. We love it and because it comes in light, medium and dark options, there is something for everyone.

All in one
If you are new to Dermalogica, or want everything in one place, we suggest buying going for the Dermalogica Travel Essentials Kit. This convenient, travel kit contains everything you need for top to toe cleaning after you have worked out. For £33 you get a body wash, body cream, shampoo and conditioner in travel sizes which are easy to put in your bag and even easier to use.

For more information, or to try samples, contact us today and we will be very happy to help.
