As you will know, unless you’ve been living in a box for the last year, this weekend marks the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II becoming the British Monarch. All over the country there will be street parties and celebrations to honour the Queen’s service to the United Kingdom, and with this in mind we thought we would put together a list of five products which you can use to get you looking fit for a Royal celebration, whether you’ll be heading to a huge party or simply waving your flags from your own back garden:

Orly Nail Polish

There’s never been a better time for adding a bit of red, white and blue to your nails and that’s easily achievable with Orly’s nail polishes. If you’re planning to add a bit of national pride to your finger tips, we’d recommend using Orly Breathable Love My Nails, Orly Breathable White Tips and Orly Breathable De-stressed Denim for a Union Jack-style manicure that we’re sure the Queen herself would admire!

GHD Hair Tools

Getting your mane into a style befitting a once-in-a-lifetime celebration requires the right tools – which is where GHD can help! The GHD Platinum+ and Helios Limited Edition Deluxe Gift Set In Warm Pewter features the GHD Platinum+ Smart Styler and ghd Helios professional hair dryer, both of which are finished in mesmerising warm pewter tones and encased in a deep emerald-green, velvet-touch vanity case which wouldn’t look out of place on a royal dressing table.

South Seas Tanning

If you’re planning to wear something which shows a bit of skin but feel like you’re lacking a tan, using South Seas Sea Foam Tanning Mousse will give you a rich, natural colour. It has a rich brown tint for easy application and will dry immediately without leaving you sticky so you can get dressed and enjoy your tropical glow, allowing you to be Jubilee party ready in no time at all.

Elemis Marine Cream

When it comes to the Royals, nothing is too high-end, which is why we’d also recommend using Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream Ultra-Rich, as it doesn’t get much more high-end than this! This cream contains powerful anti-ageing ingredients that have been shown to reduce the depth of wrinkles, improve skin firmness, tone and hydration within 15 days.

Rosehip Oil

From the reigning Queen to our future queen, it’s strongly rumoured that Princess Kate uses rosehip oil to achieve her signature glowing skin. Evolve Organic Beauty Miracle Facial Oil is a nourishing yet light facial oil that contains natural retinol from organic rosehip and antioxidants from organic argan oil to regenerate and revitalise mature and dry skin. And let’s face it, if it’s good enough for a princess then it’s good enough for anyone!

www.pexels.comAll these New Year’s Resolutions are great, and while giving up booze, changing your diet and taking more exercise are a positive step, they can all have an impact on your
sleep habits.

As we change the various elements of our lives, our sleep can improve in the long run, but adapting to a new way of doing things takes time. We have had a look at how you can get a good night’s sleep and bring a holistic change to your life in 2020.

Watch what you eat
You might be trying out a new diet or trying out veganism, but if you don’t eat enough during the day, or are fuelling up on the wrong things late in the evening, this could impact how you sleep. Don’t have caffeinated drinks before bed (remember hot chocolate might not be a sleep choice after all), steer clear of big meals later in the day and try not to have sugary snacks before bed as this can play havoc with your body, and teeth. If you are hungry, a banana or handful of nuts with a mug of warm water and lemon can help give you the balance you need.

Get into a routine
It is really important for you to stick to a bedtime routine, not because you are a child but because this will help both your brain and internal body clock find a new schedule every night. Try to go to bed at the same time each night and while a lie-in at the weekend is nice, just don’t over do it as that evening could spell sleeping troubles.

Relax before bed
While you might want to fit in a run at 9pm, it’s relaxing in the evening that will prepare you for bed and sleep. Taking a warm bath, learning simple relaxation techniques, doing some gentle yoga stretches and meditating are all calm, easy ways to help you unwind and get ready to rest.

Detox your bedroom
If you want to get to sleep, and stay asleep, your bedroom needs to be a quiet, clean, clear space that you want to spend time in. Chairs laden with clothes, shoes on the floor, dirty cups and glasses on the bedside table and endless open beauty products are not conducive to rest. This weekend, why not have a really good clear out, hoover and dust, set the radiator to the right heat, ensure the curtains are dark enough and see if this makes a difference for you. This is also the time to check out your mattress and make sure it is working, because if it is old and lumpy that is how you will feel when you wake.

Go screen free
Whether it’s a TV, laptop, tablet or e-reader, the glare of a screen in the bedroom isn’t going to do you any sleep favours. Keep screens out of the bedroom, get an alarm clock, read real books and you might be surprised how going screen free can help you sleep better.

Keep a sleep diary
If you find that you are doing everything right, but still can’t sleep, try keeping a diary so you can see what is happening. Note down what times you go to bed, what you did before you jumped under the covers, what you ate that day, when you dozed off (if you can remember) and what time you woke up in the morning. This might help you discover what is keeping you awake.

If you’re really struggling, maybe speak to your GP and see if there is an underlying issue they can help you with.

A quick guide to mindfulness for a happier life

www.pexels.comMindfulness is being talked about in the media today more than ever, but what’s it all about?

Quite simply, mindfulness is an awareness of ourselves as well as the world around us and it can improve our mental wellbeing, calming the mind and allowing us to focus on the here and now.

If we are more aware of the present moment, it can help us enjoy the world around us more and understand ourselves better. If this happens, we can experience and enjoy the people and things we have been taking for granted, and leave behind the stresses we don’t need.

What does it involve?
Just taking notice of your thoughts, feelings, sensations and the world around you is the first step towards mindfulness.
There are books, apps, and courses that give you a structured way to bring mindfulness into your life, but at the heart of it, what you are doing is stopping for a while and focusing on your breathing. You will then notice that your heart rate slows down, adrenaline production is reduced and you feel more relaxed. With practice you can develop greater focus, better sleeping patterns and start to feel happier as well.

It is true that some of us find the idea of sitting with our thoughts when we are stressed or unhappy, quite difficult, so we have some simple tips that could help you get to grips with mindfulness.

Mindfulness isn’t easy to learn at first, so you can start by reading up about it some more, taking a course, joining a group or using an app like Calm.

It is thought that just ten minutes of mindfulness meditation a day can bring massive benefits when it is done on a regular basis. If you can, do it at the same time each day – maybe when you are on the tube, at lunchtime or before you have a bath in the evening, and it’s at this time when you can really be at one with yourself and leave behind your worries and fears. Clear this space each day, stop everything else and practise your mindful meditation.

Start with short bursts of three, five or ten minutes – you can even do it on the train.

When you sit down to meditate, take a few moments to get comfortable. Notice the sounds around you and how you’re feeling. This will help your mind and body reconnect, so when you do start focusing on your breath, it’s a little easier.

When you are practicing mindfulness and meditating, all you need to do is notice your breath and when your attention wanders, which it will as you wonder what to eat for dinner or where to go at the weekend, let go of it and bring your focus back to your breath. Each time you do that, it’s a win and it gets easier.

When you progress and start to bring mindfulness to your daily life, our advice is to start slowly. We suggest that in week one, you are mindful when you are brushing your teeth – be aware of the sound, the smell, the taste, and the movement as you clean. Then build up slowly, adding a new thing each week, such as being mindful on your walk to work, or while stacking the dishwasher.

Mindfulness isn’t for everyone, but why not give it a try and in time we hope it can become a part of your life and one that will make things easier and happier for you.

Opting for Organic

Royalty-free inage

While many people focus on the products that they consume, like foods and drink, and opt for organic products to ensure the best quality, not everyone has the same idea when it comes to the products we put ON our bodies. Here at Pure Beauty, we stock many products which contain organic ingredients and these are five of our favourites:

Elemis British Botanical Shower Cream

This shower cream from Elemis is a nourishing formula based on organic oats and contains essential oils of lavender, chamomile, geranium and palmarosa, all of which were produced in Great Britain. Omega-rich echium oil works to hydrate and nourish the skin, whilst vitamin and mineral rich organic Oats and Rosemary gently cleanse the skin, for a truly restorative in-shower experience.

Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Firm

This firming cream from Dermalogica contains organic silicones – this is important because low-quality silicones can drag on the skin, create a sticky feel and can even bobble on the skin rather than soaking in properly. It’s designed for ageing skin and promises to protect against damage, accelerate repair, strengthen elasticity and improve smoothness.

Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing Gel Mask

This gel mask from Elemis is designed to resurface the skin, leaving it look tighter, firmer and more even. It harnesses the power of organic fruit acids from acerola cherries which safely and effectively exfoliate the skins surface adding to the resurfacing efficacy of the mask. It bears the Elemis promise, which means it contains no parabens, sodium laureth sulphate, DEA, mineral oils or artificial colours.

Elemis Quiet Mind Temple Balm

This little bottle contains a highly powerful blend of essential oils, including organic menthol, which combine to soothe the senses, aid relaxation, make sleep come more easily and help promote harmony, tranquillity and relaxation. As well as menthol, it contains patchouli, eucalyptus and lemon, all known for their calming properties.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Quartz Lift Serum

This serum from Elemis is a huge ally in the battle against ageing and contains methylsilanol manurronate, an organic derivative of seaweed, which helps to bind moisture in the layers of the skin, leaving skin feeling firm and strengthened whilst smoothing the appearance of wrinkles. The product has an immediate tightening and firming effect – we like to call it our ‘face lift in a bottle’!
