Exfoliating is recommended as part of any successful skincare routine. It clears away dead skin cells, make up and dirt and by improving your skin tone it makes it look and feel smoother and softer.

Whilst there is no doubt that exfoliating brings many benefits, it can be very easy to go overboard and caution should be exercised but we are hear to help you get it right.

Exfoliate in the morning
Your skin repairs and regenerates as you sleep so the best time to apply a scrub is when you wake so it takes way the night before and leaves you fresh faced for the day ahead.

Get it Right for You
Look for round granules that are gentle easily roll on your face rather than ones that are jagged and cause irritation, redness patches and even damage the skin.

Consider Your Skin Type
You need to find the right exfoliator for your skin type or you could do more damage than good.

For dry and ageing skin go for the Dermalogica Multivitamin Thermafoliant. Chemical and physical exfoliants work together on the texture of the skin with the help of self-heating technology that is activated when exposed to water. A burst of heat aids the penetration of active ingredients into the skin, whilst vitamins and C reverse the signs of premature ageing.

Dermalogica Pore Control Scrub is great for teenage skin and anyone prone to acne. This gentle lotion helps clear clogging dead skin cells using microbeads and the skin is purified by natural earth clays that soak up excess oil. Licorice, Green Tea and Menthol offer soothing, anti-inflammatory cooling benefits and the Tea Tree oil is antiseptic and antimicrobial so kills bacteria. After use apply the Dermalogica Matte Moisturiser which will mop up surface shine thanks to special oil-absorbers and offer sun protection, something that is important after using a scrub.

Exfoliate As Appropriate
The skin is delicate so doesn’t necessarily need exfoliating daily. Generally once or twice a week is enough to clear dead cells and help regulate the oil levels in your skin, leaving it feel soft and looking smooth.

That said, the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant is gentle enough to use on a daily basis. Rice-based enzyme powder activates upon contact with water, releasing Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes that smooth the skin and accelerate cell renewal. The active agents help regulate melanin production whilst clearing away dead cells. A super-soothing blend of Green Tea, Ginkgo and Colloidal Oatmeal calms inflammation, leaving the skin extraordinarily clear and refreshed.

Use Circular Movements
Using light, circular movements as you exfoliate is key to success. Spend around two minutes on your face covering your cheeks, chin and forehead before your neck and chest. Rinse with warm water and pat dry using a clean muslin cloth or soft towel.

You can use the Dermalogica Exfoliating Face Brush to help supercharge your routine. Used with the relevant products, the durable, hygienic, nylon bristles loosen dead cells and debris from the skin for amazing, clear results.

Keep Exfoliators Away from the Eyes
The skin around your eyes is extremely sensitive and should be avoided when exfoliating. After you have exfoliated however, do not ignore the eyes. Try patting a little Dermalogica Intensive Eye Repair around the eye area, blending inward from the outer corner. This excellent eye treatment is packed with antioxidant Vitamin C and Wild Yam, which help repair prematurely-aging skin and smooth fine lines.

Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise
As well as taking away dead skin cells exfoliators can remove some of the skin’s oil so it is vital to prepare and protect your face. Use a serum followed by an age appropriate SPF moisturiser that contains SPF to keep your skin happy and safe.

Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance is an ultra-rich moisturiser that is perfect for use after exfoliating. Vitamin C smooths the appearance of dry lines and skin damage, leaving skin soft and supple and soothing Coneflower and Hydrocotyl, combined with extracts of Grape Seed and Wild Yam, help reduce the signs of prematurely-ageing skin, leaving it smooth and firmer-looking.

dermalogica, essential cleansing solution, intensive moisture balance

Dermalogica Skincare Products available from Pure Beauty OnlineAlthough your skin maybe perfectly clear of any breakouts this doesn’t mean you’re out of the danger zone. Basically whether or not you suffer with acne or you have the clearest of skin a breakout can appear at any time if you do not clean your skin properly. Breakouts and spots are caused by a build-up of bacteria within the pores becoming infected so ultimately, it is clean skin rather than clear skin that is important.

Clean skin is not a hard achievement; in fact, it’s pretty easy; all you have to do is follow a few easy steps…

• First of all you should steam you face; this doesn’t require any high tech spa steamers all you need is your kettle and a bowl. Boil the kettle and pour the boiling water into a bowl. Put a towel over your head and hold the bowl of water near to your face for between five and ten minutes.

• Next, wash your face with warm water and apply a suitable cleanser for your skin type. Try the Dermalogica Essential Cleansing Solution – ideal for dry skin types.

• Make sure that you rinse all of the cleanser off your face; when all of the soap has gone, rinse it again with cool water – this closes the pores.

• Pat your face dry with a clean cloth – rubbing spreads bacteria causing further infection.

• When your face is completely dry moisturise with a product that is suitable for your skin type such as Intensive Moisture Balance – again ideal for dry skin.

Remember clear skin may be happy skin but clean skin, is healthy skin.

Dermalogica Gift Sets available from Pure Beauty OnlineThe past few articles have been about the Dermalogica limited edition gift sets that would make the perfect gift for a friend or a little treat for yourself.

If you are a regular purchaser of either Dermalogica’s Active Moist, Intensive Moisture Balance or the Skin Smoothing Cream you should seriously consider stocking up – whether you need it or not. At the moment, when you purchase one of these product Pure Beauty are giving you the chance to take home three brilliant products instead of just the one, so it’s basically buy one get two free!

Here take a look…

When you buy a 100ml bottle of Dermalogica Active Moist for the usual price of £31.65, you will also get a 13g tube of Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant and 10ml of Dermalogica’s Solar Defence Booster SPF 50. It’s as simple as that.

And it works in exactly the same way for the Intensive Moisture Balance and the Skin Smoothing Cream. If you buy a 100ml bottle of either one – or even both if you wanted to – then you’ll also receive the 13g tube of Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant and 10ml of Dermalogica’s Solar Defence Booster SPF 50. The only difference is the price, basically you pay the same price as you would usually pay for the 100ml bottle of each product so for the Intensive Moisture Balance that is £38.95 and for the Skin Smoothing Cream it’s £34.35. It doesn’t matter though because whatever way you look at it, it’s a bargain – all of the products also come in a convenient box (displayed on the Pure Beauty website).

Dermalogica Skincare Products available from Pure Beauty OnlineYou may have been able to get away with a lot less skin care in the summer, but autumn is here and winter is hot on its heels and there’s no way you can get away with abusing your skin during these two unforgiving seasons.

As far as autumn skin care regimens go, you can’t be without a moisturiser. As the weather becomes cooler you won’t be able to get away with the easy daily routine that you may have been able to get away with over the summer. You should prepare yourself with a daily moisturiser, which should be a light-weight formula and a more intense cream for night time. Dermalogica offers a great range of deeply hydrating moisturisers including Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF30 and Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance which would be great additions to an autumn/winter skin regimen.

You should never stop using sun protection. Whether it’s spring, summer, autumn or winter your skin can always be damaged by the sun’s UV rays. Although it is true that you’re probably not at as much risk in the autumn and winter, as you won’t be spending as much time outside and you won’t be as exposed as in the summer, UV rays can still damage the skin. For this reason you should be sure to wear sun protection – such as Dermalogica’s Oil Free Matte SPF30 which is ideal for oily skin and Dermalogica After Sun Repair – on all exposed areas, for example face, neck and hands.
