In recent years, there has been an ever-increasing focus on “natural” beauty products and many people have overhauled their entire beauty routine to exclude certain ingredients. One of the most maligned of these is sulphate.

Sulphates are the number one most common ingredient found in hair care products even today, and you know you’re encountering them when you see names like sodium laureth sulphate, sodium lauryl sulphate, and ammonium laureth sulphate on an ingredient label.

To be fair to sulphates, they aren’t always worthy of the bad press they’ve received – the chemical itself is basically the thing in products that helps to give you a bubbly lather. However, if you’re trying to opt for sulphate-free products, here are some that you can try:

REN Clean Skincare Atlantic Kelp And Magnesium Anti-Fatigue Energising Hand Wash

While some people want a mega-lather when washing their hands so that they feel clean, the ingredients in standard bar soap can be very drying and irritating. This hand wash from REN Clean Skincare is a gentle sulphate-free daily hand wash to deeply cleanse, moisturise and revive tired hands. It helps to repair damaged skin and ensure that your hands are clean and protected.

Elemis Absolute Eye Mask

Elemis Absolute Eye Mask helps to hydrate and support the eye contour, as well as reducing the appearance of fine lines. It hydrates, nourishes and revitalises the eye area as well as helping to reduce dark circles and puffiness. As well as being free from sulphates, it also contains no parabens, DEA, mineral oil or artificial colours, giving you the confidence that your delicate eye area will be protected.

Nine Yards Go Loud Volume Shampoo

As we mentioned above, shampoo is one of the most common places to find sulphates and has therefore been the subject of the most scrutiny when it comes to beauty products. This volumising shampoo from Nine Yards has a a mild sulphate free cleansing base, making it ideal for fine, thin or limp hair in need of delicate cleansing without weighing the hair down. The formula is 100% vegan and contains natural extracts of shea butter, gallic rose flower extract, damask rose oil, green tea and aloe vera and wheat protein.

Refinery Face Wash

Refinery Face Wash is a deep cleansing, sulphate free face wash that will help to balance and purify the skin. It’s packed with bergamot and spearmint to freshen and stimulate skin while the antiseptic properties of lavender and cedarwood help maintain a blemish free complexion. Impurities are washed away, leaving skin clear and revitalised.

This Works Stress Check Gentle Wash

This gentle wash from This Works is designed to be used all over your body and contains  ylang ylang and vitamin B5 for a worry-free wash that won’t damage the integrity of your skin. This all-over daily wash effectively cleanses the skin leaving it protected, comfortable and soothingly scented so that both your skin and your mood feel a little more balanced as you go about your day.

Dermalogica Foaming Wash

With the air turning sharper and the days getting shorter, we might still be wearing flip-flops and driving with the sunroof down, but it would seem that autumn is on the way. As well as bringing out those favourite sweatshirts and boots, now is also time to think about your complexion as the season changes.

At Pure Beauty we sell some world-class cleansers which will ensure you are ready for autumn and today we are looking at just a handful and hope there will be one which is right for you.

If your face is feeling tight and dry, why not ease things up with the Dermalogica Essential Cleansing Solution? This rich, creamy cleanser nourishes dry skin and sweeps away impurities, but those all-important moisture levels are maintained. Essential C and E Vitamins have been combined with Safflower Oil, Rosemary and Lemon, which together help condition and refresh your skin and leave it ready for your toner and mosituriser to do their thing.

If you want to repair and balance combination or problematic skin, you need the help of the outstanding Elemis Balancing Lime Blossom Cleanser. Extracts of Lime Blossom, Lecithin (aka Vitamin F) and Vitamin E help balance excess oils and soothe the skin while removing the build-up of daily dirt as well as make-up. The light, non-sticky texture makes this cleaner a pleasure to use and the results make it even easier to love.

For teenagers with acne or breakout prone skin that can be even more temperamental as the weather changes, we have the excellent Dermalogica Foaming Wash, which is part of the Clear Start range. Not only does this deep clean and purify the skin, it also energises and refreshes it all without stripping those key natural essential oils. Natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant ingredients have been blended together and when massaged into wet skin the formula breaks up dead skin cells and clears away trapped oil which helps wipe out existing and future breakouts. Phew!

If you are looking for lather when you cleanse, look no further than the Jan Marini C-ESTA Cleansing Gel. This outstanding, potent Vitamin C cleanser is suitable for all skin type and the luxurious lather helps soothe and protect your skin. As this cleanser is highly concentrated, only a small amount is needed morning and night to see results which will make you smile.

The Decleor Bi-phase Caring Cleanser and Makeup Remover is a new cleanser on the beauty block and one which is powered by a scientific blend of botanical oils and floral water. Impressed? We think you will be. The ‘revolutionary’ formula cleanses your skin, removes you make-up (even waterproof mascara cannot escape) and also plumps and soothes even the most sensitive skin so it is soft and radiant once again.

Time for one last recommendation and we think the Dermalogica Skin Resurfacing Cleanser deserves a mention. Regular use of this product will help drier and prematurely ageing skin become super smooth and ultra-clean. The Lactic Acid concentrate re-textures skin, antioxidant Vitamin E conditions and Rose Flower Oil gets to work calming the pesky sensitivity that can really get you down. What’s not to like?

If you’d like further details about these, or any of the products we sell, get in touch today and our team would love to help.

Elemis Anti Fatigue Day Cream

Shaving is a part of life for many, but get it wrong and it can cause irritation, redness, in-growing hairs and embarrassment.

At Pure-Beauty we sell a range of products that are designed to make shaving easier and more effective and today we are showcasing some of our favourites so you can enjoy them too.

We adore the Elemis Ice Cool Foaming Shave Gel because it moulds the face for a clean, close shave. This scientifically formulated, high performance foam is packed with Chinese Date, English Oak and Witch Hazel which work together to help defend the skin against irritation and razor burn, while softening facial hair so that shaving is easier and the results are more effective. For a really great shave, work a little of the gel into a lather, apply to the face then shave and rinse with warm water.

If you want to add a little extra love follow the Elemis Ice Cool Foaming Shave Gel with an application of the Elemis Anti-Fatigue Day Cream. This energising daily moisturiser is rich in Amazonian Pracaxi oil, Barley Seed and Olivine and is the perfect rescue for tender, post-shaved skin. Lightweight, easily absorbed and deeply hydrating, this cream soothes, calms, refreshes and replenishes skin and is proven to reduce the appearance of redness and razor bumps.

The Decleor Triple Action Shave Perfector is made from a blend of essential oils and offers maximum effectiveness and a fuss-free shave. Created to meet the exact needs of men’s skin, regular use can help prevent damage and hair re-growth is limited thanks to the addition of Clove Essential Oil. Used before shaving, ingrown hairs are lifted and razor glide improved. After shaving, the serum helps soothe razor burns, soften skin and can make post-shaving products more effective.

So much more than an a traditional after-shave, the Dermalogica Post Shave Balm helps reduce the discomfort and redness caused by shaving. Salycylic Acid has been added to clear impacted follicles, with Licorice Root, Saw Palmetto Fruit, Panthenol, Aloe and Horse Chestnut Seed extracts coming into play to calm the skin and help reduce aggravation. With Niacinamide, Caffeine, Biotin, Yeast Extract and Zinc Gluconate regulating sebum production, oily shine is controlled and the overall outcome is happy skin.

Freshly shaved skin needs to be ‘sun safe’ and that’s where the Dermalogica Daily Defence Block can be really helpful. This non-greasy, non-chalky, fast-absorbing multi-tasking lightweight formula promotes skin recovery while defending against skin-ageing UV rays. Wheat Germ and Grape Seed extracts have been blended with Vitamin E and the powerful antioxidants come together to help defend against damaging free radicals while easing shaving irritation. Suitable for everyday use, apply post-shave apply to the face, neck, ears and back of the neck for long-lasting UV protection and hydration.

If you have any questions about these, or any other products, do get in touch and we will be very happy to help you.

Freshen Up After the Gym with Pure Beauty

Royalty-free image

Whether you’re a regular gym goer, an occasional class-taker or someone who’s just getting into the swing of fitness, having a post-gym freshen up is absolutely essential unless you want to smell less than pleasant. If you’ve worked up a real sweat, it may feel like your regular products don’t give you that just-washedQ feeling, so we’ve put together a list of products to use after your workouts to help you to feel as fresh as a daisy:

Dermalogica Conditioning Body Wash

Although this body wash from Dermalogica is completely soap-free, the unique blend of essential oils and moisturisers will not only leave your skin feeling and smelling clean, it will also soften and soothe your skin in the process. The fragrant botanical extracts provide a natural conditioning lather that gently cleanses and conditions the skin and it’s enriched with moisturising essential oils and panthenol (pro-vitamin B5) to leave skin smooth and supple.

Elemis Devils Mint Body Scrub

If your muscles are feeling fatigued, there’s a good chance that you’re going to be dealing with DOMS (that’s ‘delayed-onset muscle soreness’, in case you were wondering) for a couple of days. Giving your arms and legs a really thorough scrub and kneading while you’re in the shower can really help to reduce the amount of time you ache for and this invigorating scrub from Elemis will only improve things further.

Elemis Deep Cleanse Facial Wash

This facial wash from the Elemis Mens range is designed to deeply cleanse your face, getting rid of daily dirt and impurities and can even help to prevent ingrown hairs. The potent blend of oak bark, spearmint and peppermint in a unique milk protein base will leave your face feeling so clean that it tingles and it’s even great for keeping facial hair clean and soft, too.

Decleor Imperfections Roll-on

Working up a heavy sweat can play havoc with your complexion and sometimes even the best cleansing regime can’t keep blemishes at bay. This roll-on product from Decleor is designed to reduce the appearance of blemishes, kill the spot causing bacteria and soothe the skin, leaving it feeling purified and clean.

Decleor BB Cream 24 Hour Hydration SPF15

If you don’t want to slap on a full face of make-up after your post-gym shower but equally don’t want to go make-up free, this BB cream is a great alternative. As well as containing an SPF and ingredients which will hydrate your skin, it will give a light wash of colour and re-texturising effect like a primer, to give your skin a flawless appearance without feeling too made-up.

5 Annoying Beauty Issues and How to Solve Them

bacteria, beauty, dry, dry shampoo, germs, hair, lather, make-up, micellar oil, orange, puffiness, puffy, red, redness, remover, shampoo, spots, swollen, tan, tanner, tanning, threading, waking

oompa-loompaSome people seem to be absolutely in-the-know when it comes to all areas of beauty, but some of us still feel like we’re in the dark when it comes to solving certain issues. Here, we look at five of the most common issues which befall other women and share a little bit of knowledge which might help you all in the future.

I still seem to have residue left after taking off my make-up

If your make-up remover isn’t quite doing the job then there’s a good chance that it’s just not heavy-duty enough to deal with oil-based make-up. Switching to a micellar oil will ensure that you get rid of every scrap of make-up without damaging your skin in the process and will moisturise as you cleanse.

My make-up is giving me spots

Sometimes, a new make-up simply doesn’t agree with your skin, but if you’ve been using something for a while and it’s just started to give you spots, you could have a build-up of bacteria on your applicators or packaging. Giving them a wipe over with Dermalogica Skin Purifying Wipes will help to kill any lingering bacteria and keep them clean going forward.

Dry shampoo seems to go claggy in my hair

Dry shampoo is one of those products which can be so useful but also a bit of a pain. On the one hand, it can freshen up hair that you simply don’t have time to wash but if you use it too often, it can also build up and leave your hair feeling claggy. Using a little clarifying shampoo on DRY hair before you wet it can really help to remove all traces of dry shampoo, just rub it all in before stepping under the shower to create a lather.

My face is super red after waxing or threading my brows or top lip

Waxing and threading are both really effective and long-lasting ways of removing hair, but they can be a little harsh on the skin, leaving it feeling red and puffy for hours afterwards. Whether you do it yourself or go to a salon, apply a layer of Decleor Post-Wax Cream – Sensitive Areas afterwards to reduce redness, soothe the skin and reduce the speed of regrowth.

My tan is making my sheets orange

We all love a healthy glow, especially if it comes from a bottle but fake tan can leave your sheets looking like you’ve been rolling in Wotsits! Opting for a gradual tanner and using it at LEAST four hours before you go to bed will ensure that you build your tan to a colour that looks nice and natural whilst also ensuring that you don’t end up with sheets which look like they belong to an Oompa-Loompa!
