You might think that using a scrub on your skin isn’t for you, but how about if we said it could be the best thing you could introduce to your beauty regime?

Far from making your skin red and sensitive, the scrubs we sell today can help to smooth your face as well as your limbs, back, and arms. They work to even tone and bring your complexion back to life so you look, and feel fabulous.

Let’s start things off with the lush Elemis Superfood Blackcurrant Jelly Exfoliator. This revitalising facial scrub is rich in fruit extracts which gently exfoliate the skin, leaving it smoother, softer and hydrated. Nordic bilberry and black tea have been blended with blackcurrant and a prebiotic, which ease tightness, but those precious natural oils we need to so much, are left safe. To use, cleanse your skin then gently massage the exfoliator in light circular motions and as you add water the gel will transform into a milky scrub that can be washed away with warm water and a cleansing cloth.

The Decleor Double Radiance Scrub is a two-in-one mask exfoliator that is perfect for removing dead cells from your skin so it can breathe once again. Three natural scrubbing particles have been mixed to create something that is more than an exfoliator; this is a radiance revealing treatment and it really works! Natural essential oils of saro and elemi have been added to boost the skin’s natural defenses well as to activate micro-circulation. The outcome clean skin that is re-energised, detoxified and radiant.

The Dermalogica Thermafoliant Body Scrub dissolves those nasty, dulling dead skin cells, hydrates, and delivers vital antioxidants leaving skin purified and refreshed. It’s the Indian bamboo stem that takes away dead cells while papain and lactic acid dissolves them. As you wash away the suds, natural sea salt revitalises and hydrates the skin while licorice, white tea, coffeeberry, and chamomile infuse it with vital antioxidants. Add tea tree and grapefruit oils into the next and you have clean, pure, refreshed skin once again.

Men can also benefit from these products and the Elemis Energising Skin Scrub is popular with our clients. Marine phytoplankton has been added to a rich vitamin E base to create a scrub that resurfaces, polishes and brightens the skin. It also helps lift facial hair before shaving to prevent ingrown hairs and blemishes. From the very first use, the skin is left feeling smooth, refined and deeply cleansed and essential moisture is locked in for added hydration.

You don’t often think about scrubs being warming, but that’s very much at the heart of the Elemis Sea Lavender and Samphire Salt Scrub. Created from a blend of sea lavender, samphire and sea salt, the skin is left feeling silky soft and smooth and thanks to the Zeolite base, you are left with a gentle warming sensation. When you massage the scrub, it becomes a rich foam that buffs away rough areas and dead skin cells. Sea salt particles provide natural exfoliation, whilst the lavender and samphire help soothe and hydrate for a healthy, all-over glow.

We can’t go without mentioning the Jan Marini Bioglycolic Resurfacing Body Scrub. A combination of concentrated glycolic acid, exfoliating particles, and botanical extracts come together to create silky smooth skin. If you suffer from rough, calloused skin or have trouble areas on the backs of your arms and legs, this scrub can offer immediate relief with progressive improvements being seen over time.

Let’s face it, there are better things to do with our time than clean our homes, but it is a necessary evil unless you want to live in a mess, or have the cash to pay someone to do it for you.

One of the biggest mistake people make when they are cleaning is to do it room by room (aka ‘zone cleaning’) which is slow and you can do it much faster, and better, if you take a different approach.

Focussing on just one area, may mean doing a great job on your counters which will sparkle and shine, but the cooker will still be dirty and as for the bathroom, well you won’t get time to go there if you are too busy folding the ironing for the next morning.

The reality is, if you put a system in place that is quick and efficient, you will have more time to do the things you really love.

Pick a Day
It can be any day, but pick a day when you can really get on top of your cleaning and this will automatically take some of the pressure off. We know this sounds daft, but doing this will make the rest of your week so much easier and you can get your partner, flatmate or kids doing jobs too! Maybe go for Sunday morning and then you can reward yourself with a roast dinner (wiping up gravy of course), or a Friday afternoon before you go out and then you can really let your hair down knowing it is done.

Start by Dusting
Dust each room, including the tops of all your furniture, the undersides of shelves and the books, as well as picture frames, TV screens and the bits and pieces we all collect that don’t really have a home. The best way to do this is to dust dry, when things are wet is so much harder. If you want to get rid of smudges and finger prints then use a clean microfibre cloth and good quality polish.

Clean Fabrics
Putting on the washing as you clean will make the most of your time and it will feel like everything is clean in your home, for a little while at least. Strip and remake the bed beds, tidy cushions and put throws back onto sofas neatly, vacuum your curtains and clean animal beds out too.

Clean Mirrors and Glass
Wipe down all the mirrors and windows in your home as they pick up a lot of dust and when the sun shines, it will show up and look like you haven’t cleaned for ages. One handy tip is to use one wet and one dry microfiber cloth as this will clean away dust and dirt but won’t leave behind lines and streaks.

Clean your Surfaces
Wipe down all the surfaces and counters in your home in one go. Move from room to room, disinfecting if necessary, and make sure you clean door handles, light switches, TV remotes, mobile devices and phones as these are full of nasty germs. If you have any illness or bugs in the home, make sure you do this at least once a day to stop anything spreading! Also leave cleaning items in bathrooms so you can wash during the week and prevent a massive build up of dirt to tackle on cleaning day. If you can, use environmentally sound protects, wear gloves to protect your hands, and always apply cream when you are done.

Get to Grips with the Bathroom and Kitchen
Walk through your bathroom and kitchen, spraying cleaner on your baths, sinks and toilets as you go – not on the carpets or floors of course. Then return and clean the bathroom and wash shower curtains and towels once the bedding is done. When it comes to the kitchen, wipe down the inside of the microwave, as well as cabinet and appliance doors before getting to work on the sink and table tops. Empty and bleach the bins so they are really clean and make sure everything sparkles, including the draining board.

Next to the Floors
Sweep, then mop or scrub the bathroom and kitchen floors, making sure you really get to those hard to clean areas as this is where nasties can hide and bacteria can hide.

Get the Vacuum Out
Last of all, vacuum the carpers in your bedrooms, down the stairs, through the living room and into the hallway, moving furniture so you get rid of the dust that can make you cough.

Now, put the kettle on and admire your hard work as you enjoy a cup of tea.

Have a Home Spa Experience with Elemis

Royalty-free image

Going to a spa is one of our favourite indulgences, but it’s not something we’re able to do do every weekend due to time and money (mores the pity!). There’s no reason, however, that you shouldn’t have that spa experience right from your own home and Elemis have a selection of products which are perfect for giving you that spa-glow without having to step foot outside your house. Read on for our pick the the best ‘home spa’ products from the Elemis ranges:

Elemis Body Detox Skin Brush

We recommend that you begin your spa experience with a gentle brushing with the Elemix Body Detox Skin Brush; its natural cactus bristles help to reduce the appearance of cellulite by improving circulation and softening the skin. It will help you to brush away the top layer of dry, dead skin cells to allow you to treat the new skin beneath with a cocoon of moisture from all the other products you use.

Elemis Aching Muscle Super Soak

The next step is to turn your bath into a hot tub and soak your aching muscles in this Super Soak. It contains a blend of botanicals which not only help to unknot tense muscles but also to relax the mind through the power of aroma. The mixture of birch, juniper, clove, alpine lavender, wild thyme and blue chamomile, combined with sea salt will uplift and invigorate the senses whilst warming the body and recharging your muscles.

Elemis Devils Mint Body Scrub

Once you’ve finished your soak, we highly recommend giving your body another level of exfoliation to ensure that any dead skin is totally removed. This devil’s mint body scrub uses peppermint to give your skin a real “ZING!”, and literally polishes your body using only natural ingredients. We’d recommend focusing on common dry areas, such as your knees, elbows and feet to give them a really good going over.

Elemis De-Stress Massage Oil

Once you’ve awoken your mind and body, we recommend giving yourself a chance to relax once again by smothering yourself in this de-stress massage oil in long, sweeping strokes – or if you’re lucky enough to have someone around to help, get them to do it for you. This oil is intended for use in conjunction with deep breathing and calming visualisations, so try to use it in a quiet, darkened room where you can really allow yourself to relax.

Elemis British Botanical Hand and Nail Butter

For a final touch, we would recommend treating your hands and nails to their own personal coating of moisture from this hand and nail butter. Our hands are often one of the most neglected areas of our body, whilst arguably being one of the most hard-working, so ensuring that they’re properly moisturised and massaged will really add that final touch to your spa experience – you could even give yourself a manicure beforehand!

Perfect Your Beard with Pure Beauty

Royalty-free image

Whether your facial hair is just a few millimeters long or a full-grown bush, there’s no ignoring the fact that beards have well and truly made a comeback for men. Just a few years back, beards were the fodder of old, pipe-smoking dudes, but now just about anyone who CAN grow a beard has one. However, having a nice beard is so much more than just letting the hair grow, so we thought we’d take a look at some of the basic steps for maintaining a decent face-warmer.

Keep it Clean

Just like the hair on your hair, your beard will produce oils which need to be washed away on a regular basis, however unlike your head, your beard hair could also harbour traces of food! Keeping your beard clean is really important because otherwise it will start to smell and become unhygienic. You can use a facial scrub to try to care for the skin beneath but using a mild shampoo will also do the trick.

Keep it Trimmed

Unless you’re incredibly lucky, it’s really unlikely that your beard will all grow at exactly the same rate, which means that it could end up uneven and looking ratty. A tidy beard will need to be trimmed and shaped, using either a clipper with a guard or a pair of scissors, depending how dexterous you are. As soon as you start shaping your beard, you’ll notice how much better it looks and wonder how you ever survived without it!

Keep it Soft

Facial hair can have a tendency to he coarser and more bushy than head-hair, which means that it needs a product to soften and tame it. Elemis Smooth Result Shave and Beard Oil will not only help to smooth out wild beard hair, it will also make your beard smell more fragrant and can also be used as a shave oil if the beard gets too much and you decide you want to go bare-faced again.

Keep it Combed

This one may sound bonkers but as soon as your hair gets beyond a certain length you will need to start combing it, unless you want a dreadlock hanging from your face! Because of its texture, facial hair tangles really easily and if you don’t deal with these tangles on a daily basis, you could easily end up with a matted mess in a really short amount of time. Use a wide-toothed comb after you’ve treated with beard oil for a matt-free beard.

Keep it Neat

Keeping your beard trimmed and tidy is all well and good, but if you have stray hairs above your beard line, the whole effect will be ruined. Use a magnifying mirror and get up close and personal with your beard line. Try not to pluck any hairs which are too close to your natural beard line as you could end up ruining the shape, but anything which is growing more than a couple of millimeters above needs to be annihilated!

Make Your Shave Last Longer

Make Your Shave Last Longer

Royalty-free image

Now that we’re well and truly enjoying the warmer weather here in the UK, barely a day goes by that we don’t have to shave our armpits, legs or anywhere else for that matter! Wearing smaller clothes in the heat means hair removal is more important than ever, so we thought we’d give you five tops tips for making your shave last longer so you don’t have to deal with hair removal every day.

Shower or Bathe FIRST

Most of us go for the ‘shave first, shower second’ ritual, which makes sense in terms of washing away stubble and shaving foam. However, showering or bathing first will soften the hair and remove oil from the skin, which will give you an overall closer shave and will make the hair easier to cut through.

Scrub-a-Dub-Dub

Using a body scrub before shaving will help you in a number of ways; as well as getting rid of any dirt and oil, you’ll lift the hairs and get rid of dead skin cells, making it easier to shave and allowing you to get closer to the root of the hair. It will also help to prevent ingrown hairs which can be painful and unsightly.

Use Decent Protection

Using a decent foam or shave oil will help in a number of ways. Failing to use a decent layer between skin and razor will help the blade to glide across your skin with less friction with means the blade will catch and cut more hairs, rather than just flattening them down and gliding over the top. It will also protect you from nicks and cuts which will leave you in a bloody mess!

A Light Touch

When shaving, it’s tempting to press the razor against the skin, but in fact this will make it harder for the blade to do it’s job. When shaving, especially over tricky areas like knees and bikini lines, you should let the weight of the razor be the only pressure that’s applied to the skin, and this will allow you to catch more hairs along the way, making it necessary to shave less often.

Finish The Job…

Technically speaking, Decleor Post-Wax Double Action Gel is for use after waxing, but we find that it’s great for using after shaving too, purely because it reduces the amount of hair growth once you’ve removed unwanted hair. It will also soothe and reduce redness and help to reduce the chance of ingrown hairs, too.
