Elemis Balancing Lavender Toner

If you have ever suffered from acne and spots you know it can be a total pain on many levels. From the redness and throbbing, to scars and cover up, blemishes can impact not only how our skin looks, but how we feel.

While we don’t have a magic wand, we wish we did, but at Pure Beauty we sell a range of first-class products that will help to calm, nourish and soothe your skin and help you to feel happy and confident about your complexion once again.

If you love your current products but need a little extra spot blasting care, we would suggest the Dermalogica Clearing Skin Wash. This gentle foaming cleanser is the perfect way to take control of breakouts and excess surface oils and has been created for breakout prone skin. Antiseptic extracts of mint, eucalyptus and tea tree come together to clear away bacteria, while menthol and camphor cool the inflammation of spots. The great thing is, the skin is left clean and bright and you know you are doing the best for your skin.

Your skin repairs as you sleep, so why not boost your love for it by using the Dermalogica Overnight Clearing Gel. This gel has been created to help clear skin congestion and help prevent future breakouts, which can only be a good thing. It is suitable for acne and breakout-prone skin and can be applied to problem areas and green tea, hyaluronic acid, rosemary, zinc, and yeast will heal your skin overnight.

All skin can benefit from using a toner and the Elemis Balancing Lavender Toner is good if you do have blemishes. This product not only tones the skin but also helps rebalance the pH levels without the use of alcohol or harsh chemicals. Extracts of sweet betty flower and saponins balance and soften the skin, while lavender helps reduce acne inflammation.

The Dermalogica Hydrating Lotion is a lightweight moisturiser that helps dehydrate, breakout-irritated skin feel better. As part of the ‘Clear Start’ range, this sheer, easy-to-apply formula helps soothe discomfort and is easier on the skin that some acne treatments. Moisturising, squalane softens and nourishes while ginger, orange, and grapefruit soothe and protect.

As the name suggests, the Dermalogica Sebum Clearing Masque is a clay masque and one that helps clear breakouts and also helps minimise premature ageing – winner! Oil-absorbing clays help to detoxify skin while salicylic acid clears the pore congestion which can really impact complexions. This can be used up to three times a week and with oat, safflower oil and niacinamide, your skin will feel soft, smooth and free from irritation.

Acne can leave scars, but the Jan Marini Bioglycolic Bioclear Cream can help. This multi-functional resurfacing cream comes with a combination of three acids that together address the appearance of acne scars, pigmentation, rosacea, fine lines, and wrinkles. For best use, cleanse your skin thoroughly before applying, then apply a thin layer to your face. Do note that excessive drying of the skin can happen, so start with one application daily and gradually increase to two or three times daily. All skin is different, so see how it goes and do what is best for you.

One final idea we have for you is the Elemis S.O.S. Emergency Cream. This is a gorgeous, intense moisturiser created to restore hydration levels, whilst repairing and de-sensitising blemish prone, dry or sensitive skin.

If you have any questions or would like to try some samples to see if they suit your skin, get in touch, and we are here to help.

Sun Protection Isn’t Just For Summer

It may seem like a really odd time of year to be telling you about sun protection, but it’s actually important to protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays all year round. It’s also possible to get sunburn in the snow, as the powerful reflections can intensify the sun’s effects and leave you looking like a lobster! Here are five of the best “all year” sunscreens that you should be adding to your daily routine.

Decleor Anti-Pollution Hydrating Fluid SPF30

This hydrating fluid from Decleor is a really good all-round, every day moisturiser and it performs a whole bunch of skin-saving tasks. As well as protecting from UVA and UVB rays, it also protects from daily pollution and free radicals which speed up the ageing process. It also adds a wash of moisture to your skin, keeping it healthy and hydrated all day long.

Dermalogica Sheer Tint SPF20 Medium

If you like a wash of colour on your face rather than a full face of make-up, then this tint could be ideal for you. It gives your skin a sheer layer of colour, helping to even the skin tone and contains hyularonic acid and walnut seed oil which moisturise your skin deeply. It’s suitable for all skin types and contains a broad spectrum sun screen which will protect against UVA and UVB rays.

Elemis Liquid Layer SPF30

This sunscreen from Elemis contains naturally occurring Titanium Dioxide which is a physical UV barrier, as well as polymeric spheres to reflect and refract UVA and UVB light. The formula is rich in anti-oxidants to defend against free-radical damage and is an invisible layer which won’t interfere with your regular moisturiser or make-up.

Dermalogica Matte Moisturiser SPF15

Teens with oily skin may find it particularly difficult to use regular sunscreen, which is why Dermalogica created this oil-free, matte moisturiser which contains UVA and UVB protection. It actively absorbs oil and reduced shine and can even be used on acne-prone skin, without causing more spots.

Decleor Daily Defence Fluid Shield SPF30

This sun protection from Decleor is a truly multifunctional product which contains moringa oleifera microproteins to fight pollutants and free radicals, as well as mineral pigments to enhance skin’s natural luminosity. It’s a 100% mineral shield which helps to protect against the sun’s harmful rays and can be used on top of any make up throughout the day, if you need a top up.

We use our make-up bags every day, often more than once, but how often do you clean it and clear it out?

Made you think, didn’t we?

The reality is, life is busy, time is short and with a G&T with your name on it at the bar, you don’t want to spend your time sorting out old mascaras, but you need to.

Today we are looking at just how long you should keep your beauty staples, before throwing them in the bin and replacing them with something shiny and new.

First things first, take everything out of your bag, clean and dry it and if it has seen better days, buy a new one. This is also the perfect time to wash your brushes. Baby shampoo is brilliant for natural hair brushes and a gentle liquid soap does the job for the synthetic ones. Brushes really can be a breeding ground for germs, so wash them once a week to be safe. Rather than storing them in the bottom of your bag, keep brushes tip up in pot and allow them to dry naturally.

Next, sort out the products in front of you and anything that you haven’t used for a while, that is past its best or has had the top left off, should be replaced. It is also worth noting, if you’ve had an eye infection it’s a good idea to throw out make-up that could cause a re-infection. Oh, and if you want your stuff to last, don’t store it in the bathroom but somewhere cool, dark and dry.

The shelf life for foundation changes depending on the formula, but generally cream-based foundations last between six months to a year, and if there’s an SPF it tends to be less. Always pay attention to how your foundation looks and feels on your skin and if you notice that is starts to change colour or smell, it is time to ditch it. Also remember, as we head towards winter, you might want to swap your lighter sheer foundation for a stronger base but go for a product with light reflecting particles.

Ideally a mascara is good to go for around four months. After this time, they tend to become dry and prone to clumping, and using the same brush over and over can increase the risk of eye infections.

We all tend to have a different lipstick in every bag, ones for day, others for evening and ones we never even wear. This is totally fine but just make sure you keep them clean and if you come across one that is past it’s best, chuck it away and use another one. Oh, and don’t share them!

Eye and lip liners can last up to three years but it is likely you will use them before that, or they will dry up and crumble. Again, don’t pass these around on a night out and at the first sign of dehydration, bin and buy a new one.

Nail varnish is one of those products that never seems to die, but shake it and if the colour doesn’t completely mix or the varnish is too sticky to apply smoothly, it’s game over.

Got a tip we have missed, then get in touch and let us know.
