Keep Your Routine Cruelty-Free

Whether you eat a vegan diet, are veggie, or still have meat in your diet, it’s important to most of us that our beauty products aren’t tested on animals. Cruelty-free beauty means that you can use products with the peace of mind that nothing you’re using has been tested on animals, and here at Pure Beauty, we try to offer as many of these products as we can find. Here are five of our favourites:

Dermalogica Age Bright Clearing Serum

This serum from Dermalogica is deisgned for people with ageing skin who still deal with adult acne or breakouts, giving you spot-busting power which will also tackle the signs of ageing. The AGE Bright™ Complex works with the skin’s natural microbiome for clearer, brighter skin and as well as being cruelty free, the formula is also gluten free, vegan friendly and contains no artificial fragrances, colours or parabens.

Orly Breathable Almond Milk

This beautiful soft taupe colour is the perfect neutral colour for autumn and is cruelty free, as are all of the polishes from Orly. The strong formulation means that you have no need for top coat or base coat and the advanced technology means that oxygen can still penetrate through to the nail, reducing any risk of damage from having your nails painted.

Dermalogica UltraCalming Calm Water-Gel

Many products for deeply dry skin are often oil-based, but this water-gel from Dermalogica is different. It’s designed for use on skin which suffers from sensitivity and redness and treats the underlying dryness using hyaluronic acid technology which works in different skin layers to increase and lock in moisture. It’s vegan friendly and cruelty free, as well as being free from gluten and parabens.

Dermalogica UltraCalming Barrier Defence Booster

This defence booster from Dermalogica is formulated using a combination of oils which not only moisturise the skin but also protect it from environmental stressors. Squalane locks in moisture, while soothing oat oil helps combat sensitivity and support healthy looking skin. It’s made using cruelty-free ingredients and can be applied directly to the skin, or mixed with your usual moisturiser for an added boost.

Dermalogica Phyto-Nature Firming Serum

This vegan, cruelty-free serum from Dermalogica is aimed at ageing skin and provides flash-firming properties with just one application. It’s clinically proven to double skins luminosity and minimise the appearance of fine lines after just one application, while reducing visible wrinkles in 4 weeks.

The Benefits of Bamboo in Your Beauty Routine

You’d be forgiven for thinking that all bamboo is good for is feeding pandas and propping up your sunflowers, but extracts from bamboo can actually be extremely beneficial to your skin. It is packed with antioxidants, is an anti-irritant and even has anti-inflammatory properties. This means that it helps to provide the skin with essential nutrients, while helping to calm down any signs of damage.

Bamboo is also an excellent source of silica, which is essential for maintaining a youthful complexion. It’s brilliant to use for all skin types as it helps to maintain the elasticity in the skin, by bolstering collagen production and preventing the ‘plumpness’ of your skin from depleting.

Here are some of our favourite bamboo-containing products:

Decleor 2 in 1 Purifying and Oxygenating Mask

This mask from Decleor uses the beautifully named ‘bamboo tears’ to cleanse and deeply mattify without dehydrating the skin. The mask can be used to both cleanse and exfoliate the skin, and contains Egyptian loofah fibres to gently eliminate dead skin cells, while spheres of white jojoba restore hydration and leave your skin feeling soft.

Elemis Daily Moisture Boost

Skin is rarely more vulnerable than it is directly after shaving, as the blades of a razor strip away the oils and protective layers of the complexion. Elemis developed this daily moisture boost especially for male skin and uses bamboo to assist in restoring elasticity, suppleness and essential nutrients stripped away during shaving. It offers a lightweight, fresh, non-oily formula which feels great on your skin and even offers defence from harsh external pollutants.

Dermalogica Antioxidant HydraMist

Another benefit of bamboo is that it stimulates the skin’s own hyaluronic acid production, giving increased hydration and elasticity while tightening and firming skin, which is why Dermalogica has used it in this hydrating mist. The mist also contains ingredients which inhibit the enzymes that contribute to the breakdown of collagen, leaving your face feeling properly hydrated and nicely plumped for a more youthful appearance.

Dermalogica Thermafoliant Body Scrub

This body scrub from Dermalogica is a little different to the other products on the list, because it uses the actual stem of the bamboo, rather than extracts. The bamboo stem helps to physically exfoliate the skin to refine skin texture and brighten tone. It also contains extracts of licorice, white tea, coffeeberry and chamomile, which infuse skin with vital antioxidants, while oils of tea tree and grapefruit peel purify and refresh.

Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery How did you find the balmy temperatures and sunny skies last weekend?

We know it was lovely around the UK and while there will still be clouds in the sky, and somedays it will be raining, those pesky, powerful UV rays can still penetrate your skin whatever the weather, so you need to make sure you protect it and keep it sun safe.

We love the Dermalogica Solar Defence System as it helps keep your skin healthy and youthful as you enjoy the sun and benefit from mood boosting Vitamin D.

They are not only look after your skin, whatever the weather, but also leave it feeling soft and silky, not sticky!

If you want to maintain hydration levels and keep the elements at bay, we suggest using the Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50. This is a medium-weight, daily moisturiser is packed with SPF30 as well as a patented polypeptide that helps your skin fight ageing free radicals. White Tea, Vitamin C, Yeast Extract and Phytoestrogens all help with collagen production and because the cream blends smoothly into your skin, it makes the perfect make-up base too.

If you are getting sweaty playing tennis, sailing or jumping in and out of the water, you might want to throw the Dermalogica Protection 50 Sport SPF50 in your bag when you leave the house. This water-resistant, broad spectrum sun cream is suitable for all skin types and can be applied to your face and body. The lightweight formula helps neutralise damage and bind moisture to skin without leaving a greasy residue.

Oily skin can be a problem when the sun comes out, but this doesn’t have to be the case if you use the Dermalogica Oil Free Matte. We love how this lightweight, ultra-sheer broad spectrum sunscreen not only protects the skin from the sun but also helps prevent shine, regulates oil production and soothes inflammation. To use, simply apply the cream evenly and liberally to your face at least 15 minutes before you go into the sun exposure. You can also mix with your regular Dermalogica Moisturiser and it is important to apply regularly for continuous support and to do so especially after swimming and taking exercise.

For a little extra protection, the Dermalogica Solar Defence Booster SPF 50 adds critical UVA and UVB broad spectrum sunscreen defence. The idea is to add this to your normal moisturiser or foundation and can be used on all skin types. The non-chalky formula forms an invisible shield against skin- damaging environmental assault when applied and it should be used at least half an hour before going into the sun. As well as providing protection, we love this product because the added antioxidants enhance skin smoothness and softness – result.

If you do get caught out and your skin is burnt, don’t panic. The Dermalogica After Sun Repair is a soothing balm that helps repair skin damaged from exposure to UV sunlight. A reparative complex, enriched with Seaweed Extracts and soothing botanicals, helps protect cell proteins from further damage while restoring the skin’s condition. Japanese Alder, Algae Extracts, Hyaluronic Acid, Clove Oil, Lavender, Cucumber, Chamomile and Yucca come together to ease the irritation, redness and pain cause by sunburn. After showering in cool water, apply a generous amount of lotion to painful ares, keeping away from the eyes, and stay out of the sun for a day or two so you, and your skin, can recover.

For more details, or samples, get in touch today and we would love to help you stay safe in the sun.

Dermalogica Meet Dermalogica KitTrying a new skincare brand for the first time can be daunting; you don’t know which products to try and investing in full-size bottles of products you’re unfamiliar with can be a big step to take. Dermalogica is all too familiar with the problems with making this leap, which is why they’ve put together their ‘Meet Dermalogica’ Kit, comprised of 30 days worth of the best products from Dermalogica’s ranges. Read on to see which products are included and what they can do for your skin.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant is an exfoliator made from rice enzymes which will efficiently slough away dead skin cells, reducing dullness, but is suitable for all skin types and can be used every day, unlike many exfoliating treatments. It contains green tea, ginkgo and colloidal oatmeal which calm inflammation, and leave the skin clear and refreshed. It stimulates cell renewal which will keep your skin looking brighter every time you use it.

Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel

Many cleansing gels by other brands tend to be harsh and dry the skin out, causing redness and inflammation. This gel from Dermalogica is designed to remove dirt, pollution and impurities while completely protecting the natural balance of oils within the skin. The cleanser contains no soap, no perfumes and is enriched with lavender and balm mint to cleanse the skin with a soothing aftercare. Suitable for all skin types and gentle enough to be used daily.

Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream

Even skin which isn’t prone to dryness needs a dose of moisture, which is where this skin smoothing cream comes in. It deeply hydrates the skin, offering smoothing to areas of fine lines and wrinkles, and helps to reduce free radical activity while the light, emulsive protection helps shield against dehydration and pollution. It’s suitable for most skin types, and offers a defence against free radicals which help to accelerate the ageing process.

Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Firm

Adding moisture back into the skin is the first step towards combating the signs of ageing, but sometimes you need something slightly more powerful to deal with your issues. The targeting formula in Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Firm are designed to combat visible lines around the eyes and mouth area as well as protecting against moisture loss to minimise fine lines associated with dehydration. It contains retinyl palmitate (vitamin A), ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E) to bolster the skin’s own reparative powers and a protective shield of organic silicones which helps prevent moisture loss and protects vulnerable skin.
